Fourth Arrest Made in Connection to Boynton Beach Park Shooting; Surveillance Video Released
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A fourth suspect has been arrested in connection with a violent shootout that disrupted a community event at Sara Sims Park last month, leaving three women injured and rattling residents who had gathered for a night of peace. D’Andre Leger Jr., 20, is facing multiple felony charges, including attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and discharging a firearm in public, Boynton Beach Police confirmed Friday.
The shooting occurred on the evening of July 5, 2025, during the “Peace in the Hood” event a community gathering intended to promote unity and nonviolence. According to police, gunfire broke out around 8 p.m. when rival gang members exchanged shots in the middle of the crowded park.
Surveillance Video Key to Identifying Suspect
Investigators say surveillance footage played a critical role in identifying Leger as one of the shooters. According to the arrest affidavit, video from the park shows members of the “16th Ave Boys” a known gang standing near a fence on the south side of the park. Across the street, detectives say, were members of a rival group, the “Cherry Hill Boyz.”
The footage allegedly captures Leger running behind a friend, identified as Kenneth Hollis, and firing a weapon. Shell casings were later recovered from the area where Leger and Hollis were seen in the video.
“This type of reckless gun violence endangers innocent lives and will not be tolerated,” said a spokesperson for the Boynton Beach Police Department.
Three Women Injured in Crossfire
Authorities said three women attending the event were unintentionally struck during the shootout. Their injuries were not life-threatening, but the incident has left the community shaken.
Growing Number of Arrests
Leger is now the fourth suspect taken into custody. Police previously arrested:
Jamarion Petty
Javon Johnson
Kenneth Hollis
To date, police have seized seven firearms believed to be connected to the case. The investigation is ongoing, and Boynton Beach Police say additional arrests are expected as they continue working to identify all individuals involved in the shooting.
