Boxer Gervonta Davis Arrested in Miami Gardens Domestic Violence Case
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Gardens police confirmed Wednesday that professional boxing star Gervonta Davis has been arrested in connection with a domestic violence incident reported in October. Davis, 31, was taken into custody with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service in Miami’s Design District, authorities said. He had been wanted on charges stemming from allegations made by a woman who told investigators she has been in a relationship with Davis since 2022. Police said Davis now faces charges of battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping. He is also named in a civil lawsuit filed by the same woman.
Allegations Detailed by Police
According to Miami Gardens police, the alleged victim came to the department on Oct. 29 accompanied by her attorney to report the incident.
“The victim reported sustaining minor injuries, including visible bruising to her left arm, at the time the report was made, and sought medical attention,” Miami Gardens Police Sgt. Emmanuel Jeanty said.
Investigators say surveillance video captured Davis arriving days earlier at Tootsie’s Cabaret, where the woman was working at the time.
“The victim reported that Mr. Davis grabbed her by the back of her head, pulled her hair with one hand and by her throat and forcefully escorted her down a stairway and toward the parking garage,” Jeanty said. “She was only able to get away after he released her.”
Arrest and Court Appearance
Davis appeared in court Thursday morning, where a judge ordered him held on an $8,500 bond. He was also ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim and to stay away from Tootsie’s Cabaret in Miami Gardens. Police confirmed the arrest comes after months of investigation into the October allegations.
Pattern of Prior Domestic Violence Cases
This is not Davis’ first encounter with law enforcement involving domestic violence accusations. In 2020, video surfaced showing Davis grabbing his then girlfriend by the throat at a celebrity basketball game. In 2022, he was arrested in Broward County on allegations that he struck an ex-girlfriend in the face. More recently, in July 2025, Davis bonded out of the Miami-Dade County jail after being accused of striking the mother of his child in the back of the head.
Boxing Career and Fallout
Davis, a Baltimore native, is widely regarded as one of boxing’s top pound-for-pound fighters. The reigning WBA lightweight champion won his first 30 professional bouts, 28 by knockout, becoming a major draw in arenas from New York to Las Vegas. His legal troubles, however, have increasingly intersected with his career. A high-profile bout scheduled for November against Jake Paul was canceled after the civil lawsuit related to the October incident was filed in Miami. As the criminal case moves forward, Davis remains under court restrictions, and further hearings are expected in the coming weeks.
