Rep. Jasmine Crockett Criticizes Trump Over Epstein Files: “He’s Got Something to Hide”
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) publicly criticized President Donald Trump on Wednesday for his administration’s refusal to release federal files related to Jeffrey Epstein, stating on MSNBC, “I know he’s got something to hide. That’s the only reason it’s not out there.”
Crockett’s comments came during an appearance on The ReidOut, where she addressed the growing tension among Trump supporters over the Epstein case. “I didn’t think this would be the thing that would get the base to stir,” she said. “But I’m gonna let them stew in it.”
The remarks follow a week of controversy stemming from President Trump’s own social media posts in which he called the renewed scrutiny over Epstein the “Jeffrey Epstein Hoax.” In those posts, Trump accused Republicans questioning the administration’s stance of “doing the Democrats’ work” and claimed the criticism was “bullshit, hook, line, and sinker.”
Crockett’s public statement adds to mounting calls for transparency. The issue has created visible fractures within the Republican Party, with some GOP lawmakers, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), expressing support for releasing Epstein-related files.
A CNN poll released Tuesday found that 51% of Americans are dissatisfied with the federal government’s handling of the Epstein case, while only 3% said they were satisfied. The remainder either had no opinion or said the matter did not concern them.
The Department of Justice has not issued any recent updates regarding the release of Epstein case materials. Meanwhile, political fallout continues after the firing of Maurene Comey, the federal prosecutor who played key roles in the Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell cases, as well as the recent prosecution of Sean “Diddy” Combs. Comey’s dismissal was first reported by ABC News. The Justice Department has not commented on the reason for her departure.
Crockett, a first-term Democrat from Texas, has gained national attention in recent years for her high-profile moments during House committee hearings and frequent media appearances, emerging as a vocal critic of the Trump administration.
As of today, there is no scheduled congressional vote on legislation to force the release of Epstein-related documents. Crockett has not formally introduced new legislation but has consistently voiced support for transparency in the case.
