Florida Drug Dealers Arrested in Largest Fentanyl Bust

Manatee County’s Largest Fentanyl Bust Leads to Arrest, $1.7 Million in Drugs and Weapons Seized

BRADENTON, Fla. – A major drug operation has been dismantled in Manatee County following the largest fentanyl bust in the county’s history. Authorities arrested a suspected drug dealer and seized a massive cache of narcotics and firearms, including a high-powered handgun known for its ability to penetrate police body armor.

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) announced the bust in a press conference, where Sheriff Rick Wells detailed the investigation that led to the seizure of over 12 kilograms of fentanyl—an amount capable of killing the entire Tampa Bay population, according to officials.

Months-Long Investigation Leads to Arrest

The investigation began in November 2024 when detectives started tracking fentanyl sales at a suspected drug house in Bradenton. Using undercover operations, authorities identified 23-year-old Maurice Baxter Jr. as one of the key figures in the illicit trade. As part of their probe, investigators reportedly made drug purchases totaling $14,000 to build their case.

On March 13, 2025, MCSO’s SWAT team executed a search warrant on the Bradenton residence. Inside, they found and arrested 40-year-old Tron Williams, a known drug dealer in the area. Williams was alone in the home at the time of the raid and was taken into custody without incident.

Massive Drug Seizure

During the search, deputies uncovered a staggering amount of illegal substances, including:

  • 12.3 kilograms of fentanyl, including pharmaceutical-grade variants

  • 1 kilogram of cocaine

  • 1 kilogram of MDMA (Ecstasy)

  • 273 grams of methamphetamine

  • 822 grams of marijuana

  • 29.4 grams of Adderall

Sheriff Wells emphasized the deadly potential of the seized fentanyl, which has been a driving force behind the opioid crisis in Florida. “These drugs could have killed thousands,” he warned, citing the lethal potency of fentanyl in even small doses.

Weapons and Ammunition Recovered

In addition to the narcotics, law enforcement officers also confiscated multiple firearms, including an M5 handgun, often referred to as a “cop killer” due to its armor-piercing ammunition. Over 1,000 rounds of ammunition were found in Williams’ bedroom, alongside other weapons.

Authorities also impounded a vehicle linked to the suspects, which may have been used in drug trafficking operations.

Authorities Still Searching for Additional Suspect

While Williams has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of drug trafficking, the investigation remains ongoing. Law enforcement officials are actively searching for Baxter, who remains at large.

“These drug dealers don’t care about lives,” Sheriff Wells stated. “All they care about is money—selling their poison and fueling addiction in our communities.”

Williams is now facing multiple felony charges, including trafficking in fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, and MDMA. If convicted, he could receive a lengthy prison sentence.

The sheriff’s office has urged the public to report any information regarding Baxter’s whereabouts as they continue their crackdown on fentanyl distribution in the region.

This historic bust marks a significant victory for law enforcement in the fight against the opioid epidemic, preventing a substantial quantity of deadly drugs from reaching the streets of Manatee County and beyond.
