From Bad Bunny..to Tiffany Haddish..the NFL is an Embarrassment

Before you read this, I want to make sure that it is understood that this is my opinion, and my opinion only. I also want to note that I tried to include the NFL YouTube video for her flub, but it would not let me embed it here. So I linked to a different short that you can see. The NFL is apparently very strict on being able to share links.

I used to be the biggest sports fan. I watched all of it. Now, over time, politics, current events, life, businesses, writing, etc. had made for many changes in my sports watching and “giving a shit” attitude.

I never watch, nor care about, hockey (maybe the Stanley Cup), the Olympics, or the WNBA. Baseball is OK, and the World Series may get a gander. NBA basketball is the worst it has ever been. No defense played, 3-pointers shot way too many times for no reason (even on a fast-break???), flopping everywhere, and a total lack of caring about the game. You can include big-mouth idiot coaches like Steve Kerr and Gregg Popovich.

So this brings us to football. By far the best sport that is left. I do enjoy college football to an extent. But it has now been ruined by the NIL and the money they get. We are waaaaaay past the college football player getting ZERO dollars, but a free education. These guys get big money for the season. And since there is no contract (like the pros), they can jump ship from year to year to the highest bidder.

The best example of this is quarterback Shedeur Sanders of the Cleveland Browns. He made more money ($6.5 million) in his final year at the University of Colorado than he will in his total rookie NFL contract signing (4 yr / $4.6 million). Let that sink in!!!

That’s almost a $2 million difference, and one is for FOUR YEARS!!!! So college football is now being destroyed.

Then we have the NFL. And while many things are wrong in the NFL, this article/blog was meant to highlight what the headline of the article is about: The idiots they got to give away awards at the NFL Honors, and the half-time show starring Bad Bunny.

Let’s start off with the idiot. When someone is giving out an award, it is obviously important that they get the person’s name who is winning the award (and the other nominees, in some cases) correct. It is a sign of respect. It shows that you’re semi-intelligent. And it really is something that should be done 100% correctly every time.

You are being paid a lot of money to simply hand out an award and say somebody’s name. How hard can it really be, considering how much money you’re going to make? In this case, the idiot actress, Tiffany Haddish, was giving out an award to the head coach of the New England Patriots, who is now in the Super Bowl, and winning NFL Coach of the Year. His name is Mike Vrabel. She butchered it and called him Mike “Verbal”, not once, but twice.

To me, this is a total embarrassment. Number one, there are producers of these award shows that are there to make sure everything goes correctly—whether it’s the lighting, how someone’s dress looks, the microphone levels, everything is gone over a thousand times. The set design, the television graphics, everything. Somebody’s job is to make sure this is correct, so either the producers messed up by not going over it with her, or Tiffany Haddish cares so little about the award she was giving that she didn’t even ask or think to find out how to maybe say this guy’s name that she clearly couldn’t pronounce correctly. And I can tell you that 100%, she knew who was winning it and should have made sure to know how to say it.

Then we have Bad Bunny. Now, to make this clear, I never enjoy halftime shows. I couldn’t care less. I typically never liked the artists that perform at them, and I never understood the hype around it. It always baffled me why people got excited about it. But that makes me different. It’s just a ten-minute interval of music from artists and music that I probably don’t listen to.

So this year’s halftime show is going to feature Bad Bunny. I know who Bad Bunny is because I have listened to reggaeton music, and I was a DJ and played reggaeton music, and honestly, I like reggaeton music.

Bunny is a global superstar who makes reggaeton music primarily fora primarily Hispanic audience, because that is who mainly listens to that style of music. And while he does have an American audience, it is not at the level of recognition to play at the Super Bowl. One thing the Super Bowl tries to do is to go with safer artists for public consumption, who have had either five, ten, or fifteen years of success or at least are household names that everybody can enjoy. Remember, this is a family gathering around the TV event.

For people who enjoy reggaeton music or Hispanic Latin music, he is a top-five artist in the world. Besides that the average sports fan has no clue who he is, the issue that many people have, that I don’t traditionally care about, but I do understand, is that you are taking an American audience with an American sports pastime and featuring a Hispanic artist who has gone on record saying he will not speak English or do any English songs and will only do Latin songs during his halftime show. And for some people, not only are they not going to understand anything he says, but that is not enjoyable to them, as this is an event that is steeped in Americana.

If you want to pepper in the flamboyant homosexual/bisexual stuff, you can include that too. But it seems like 90% are fixated on the language barrier and the non-American factor. His sexuality is hardly being talked about. Imagine if that were being discussed. Thank God it isn’t. Or we might literally be looking at HALFTIME ARMAGEDDON!!!!

Enjoy the game, everybody. I’m taking the Seattle Seahawks for what it’s worth. And don’t hit your wife or girlfriend if you don’t hit your parlay. One doesn’t allow for the other.
