Politics is one thing that will always be talked about no matter who you are or what state you live in.  In our state of Florida, politics are always in the news.  The reason behind that is because of who our governor is.  Governor Ronald DeSantis is always up to no good it seems.  That opinion depends on your political affiliation.  Republicans may say he is doing a fabulous job while Democrats may say he sucks and should be removed from office.  It makes me wonder how he got so many votes and won the election back in 2019.  All of the people that voted for him, believed the lies and bull$%#t that came out of his mouth.  He does not have Florida’s best interests in mind or at heart.  He is not protecting our freedoms.  If anything, he is taking our freedoms from us, one at a time.  He needs to reread the Constitution of the United States to refresh his memory of what the citizens of this great nation are entitled to.  He worries about the wrong things and does not seem to care that many residents of Florida are suffering from his choices and the bills he signed into law.

Recently, he filed a complaint against R House which is a bar at Wynwood located in Miami.  The complaint alleges that R House violated the state public nuisance law by becoming “manifestly injurious to the morals or manners of the people.” The department also cites a 1947 Florida Supreme Court decision that found that “men impersonating women” in the context of “suggestive and indecent” performances constitutes a public nuisance.  He actually found a video of a drag performer holding hands with a young child while walking through the restaurant.  How does he know that the child in question is not the performer’s own kid?  If that is not the performer’s kid then the parents obviously have no problem with what happened.  They chose to eat at the restaurant.  They knew what type of establishment it was when they made the choice to sit down at a table and eat a meal there.  If it was an issue, then the parents would not have been sitting down eating their meal at that restaurant.  After doing further research of R House at Wynwood, there is a special Drag Brunch Experience you can reserve a table at.  The package is $55 per person and does not include tax or gratuity.  They do have a children’s menu for the Drag Brunch.  This means that anyone who makes a reservation for this brunch is aware of what goes on at the restaurant.  This also means that they accept the performers for who they are and actually enjoy watching their performances.  At least here you get dinner and an entertaining show.  Has Governor DeSantis never been to Hooter’s restaurants?  Is that restaurant ok because they are natural-born women?  Does Governor DeSantis also realize that you see more skin at the beaches here in Florida?  There are nude beaches that also have children on them.  Is Governor DeSantis even aware that there are numerous camps in the state of Florida that teach kids about being a naturist?  Naturists are people who go naked in designated areas or also known as a nudist.  It is also a person who worships nature or natural objects.  Governor DeSantis is worried about a child seeing a drag performer showing their buttocks and fake breasts but apparently, he has no concern for the naturist camps all over Florida that teach children about nudity and the lifestyle that goes along with it.  People are paying these camps to take their children and teach them about nudity where there are many other children.  Why are these camps ok but a drag show is not ok?  Also, how did our governor even find the video of this drag performer walking with the young child in the restaurant?  Maybe someone should check his browser history on all of his electronic devices!

Another quirky thing our governor is doing is going after doctors that are doing procedures on youth for gender reassignment.  Governor DeSantis called for doctors who perform gender reassignment surgeries on minors to be sued at a Wednesday, August 3, 2022, press conference.  “They talk about these very young kids getting gender-affirming care,” DeSantis said, who used air quotes while using the phrase. “What they don’t tell you what that is, is that they are giving very young girls double mastectomies, they want to castrate these young boys — that’s wrong.”  Since when does Governor DeSantis have a say in what happens to children that he did not father?  He is trying to push his beliefs, morals, values, and opinions onto the entire state of Florida.  How are you “protecting our freedoms” if you are telling people what they can and cannot do with their own children?  You are not the parent of these children that are getting gender reassignment surgery so why do you have to put your two cents in?  I am quite sure that the parents of children getting gender reassignment surgeries have gone to counseling with their children.  I am quite sure that these parents have sat down and talked to their children about all of the options that are available.  What Governor DeSantis is trying to do is remove all of their options.  He is trying to do away with any services that have to do with the LGTBQIA+ community.

Since school is about to start next week here in Florida, Governor DeSantis is pushing his “Don’t Say Gay” bill back into the news.  Obviously, students will be taught the core subjects that include math, science, language arts (English) and social studies (history).  What will not be taught, according to our governor, is critical race theory, any sexualized content, and transgender ideology.  Now, it has been a while since I have been in school, and I did not go to public school here in Florida, but I do not recall ever learning about anything like what the governor is talking about.  We were taught the history of the world no matter how bad it was.  We were taught that people owned slaves who were brought here from Africa against their will.  We were taught that people stole the land from the Native Americans.  We were taught religion was attempted to be forced onto people who already had their own religion that they believed in.  We were taught all about the terrible things that our ancestors did to other people.  We were also taught the good things that our ancestors did.  There are good and bad in everyone.  We all have the devil and angel on our shoulders who fight for us to do the right thing every day. We were taught about our bodies in health class so we knew what to expect when we hit puberty and “changes” started happening to our appearance and bodily functions.  There was nothing sexual about it.  It was a learning opportunity where the boys were separated from the girls and we were each taught about our bodies.  Girls learned about girl’s bodies while boys learned about boy’s bodies.  We were educated not indoctrinated which is what Governor DeSantis is fighting the state of Florida about.  He does not want our children to learn about past incidents that happened.  He does not want our children to learn that white people did terrible things in the past to “non-white” people and some still do today in 2022.  “No one should be instructed to feel as if they are not equal or shamed because of their race,” DeSantis said in a statement at the time. “In Florida, we will not let the far-left woke agenda take over our schools and workplaces. There is no place for indoctrination or discrimination in Florida.”  He thinks that removing these educational materials that it will unite us and enforce the fact that all of us are equal before the law and have inalienable rights.  He obviously does not pay attention to statistics of arrest records, jail populations, and deaths by law enforcement.  He is so worried that our children will learn the truth about their ancestors that they might not repeat their actions.  He says that our children will not be indoctrinated but does he even know what indoctrination means?  It means the process of teaching a person or group of people to accept a set of beliefs uncritically.  What exactly is Governor DeSantis doing?  He is wanting the entire state of Florida to accept his beliefs and not challenge him or his ways.  If you stand up to Governor DeSantis, he will take things from you.  He took Walt Disney’s tax privileges because they spoke out against the “Don’t Say Gay” bill and withheld all political donations.  He took funding from Tampa Bay Rays because the team spoke out about gun violence.  So, he does not want the school system to “indoctrinate” our children, but it is ok for him to indoctrinate the entire state of Florida.  What is wrong with this picture?

Gun violence is another thing that is plaguing our state as well as the rest of the world.  Guns are easily obtained by individuals that should not have them, to begin with.  Governor DeSantis is trying to make Florida a constitutional carry state which will allow people to carry their guns in public at all times WITHOUT PERMITS!  Has this man fully lost his mind?  We have seen so many mass shootings this year and many people have died at the hands of someone who illegally had a gun in public.  As of right now, hunters that are actively hunting and law enforcement are the only ones that are allowed to carry their guns in public.  In order to obtain a concealed weapons permit in Florida, you must take a class and pass it with competency!  Background checks are done on everyone that applies for a gun permit in Florida also. I am not sure why Governor DeSantis wants to have so many armed people walking around in Florida.  There are many shootings happening all over our state and people are dying.  They should be doing a deeper background check on all people wanting a gun permit.  They should be evaluated by a psychologist if any red flags come up.  There should be limitations in effect so the wrong people do not get guns.  We are not trying to take away guns from law-abiding citizens.  We are not trying to take guns away from people that are responsible for their guns.  We are trying to make sure people that are not mentally stable or have revenge motives get their hands on a gun.  Now, it still may be possible for them to get a gun, but they will not be able to go and buy one in a gun shop.  We are trying to make sure people survive their daily morning walks.  We are trying to save our children’s lives.  We are trying to keep our kids safe from harm.  Not everyone needs to be in possession of firearms.

The last thing that Governor DeSantis stuck his nose into is abortion rights and reproductive health issues.  Another way he is abusing his power is by suspending Andrew Warren for not wanting to enforce the laws when it comes to prosecuting those that have an abortion and prosecuting doctors that provide abortions.  “State Attorneys have a duty to prosecute crimes as defined in Florida law, not to pick and choose which laws to enforce based on his personal agenda,” DeSantis said in a statement.  Doesn’t Governor DeSantis pick and choose what he wants to enforce based on his personal agenda?  He was upset about people and companies speaking out against him, so he took funding from them.  So, he should be suspended or fired since he is doing the same thing as Andrew Warren, right?  The United States Supreme Court got rid of the federal constitutional abortion protections by reversing Roe v Wade in June.  By doing this, each state now has a say in when a woman can have an abortion.  Florida now bans all abortions after 15 weeks gestation unless the fetus or mother’s life is in danger.  Since it is the law now, it needs to be enforced.  However, no one should have the right to tell a woman if she can have a baby or not.  A woman’s body should only be affected by the woman herself and no one else.

DeSantis and the rest of the government are trying to take over everything as well as combine church and state.  They are trying their best to take freedoms away from us that have been in the Constitution since it was written.  Government officials seem to be getting bored with their lives and are ruffling a lot of feathers in the world.  Governor DeSantis is trying so hard to push his personal beliefs out onto the citizens of Florida.  He needs to realize that different things make different people happy.  Maybe he needs to take a look into his own personal life and see why he is trying to make the rest of Florida miserable.  After all, misery does love company and he is trying his best to have us keep him company.  I will not accept the invitation though.  No thank you, Governor DeSantis.  I will not be miserable with you.  I make my own choices and I refuse to tell anyone else what they can or cannot do with their own body.  You should shift your focus to things we are all struggling with like food costs, supply of food and necessities, affordable rent for everyone, healthcare we can all afford, and cheaper gas prices.  Everything is not up to our president.  Our governor needs to step up and do what is right for everyone, not just the people that believe in him.  He was put into office to govern the entire state of Florida and he seems to only put a few first instead of the masses.  Please pay attention to the real news and read between the lines.  Not everything that glitters is gold.  The grass is not greener on the other side, but it is greener where you water and fertilize it.  Please get out and make sure you vote.  Help make Florida better for everyone, not just the select one percent.
