Heat Defeat Nets 106-97 on Vince Carter’s Jersey Retirement Night

The Miami Heat spoiled a historic night for the Brooklyn Nets, beating them 106-97 at Barclays Center as Vince Carter’s No. 15 jersey was raised to the rafters. The Heat, led by Tyler Herro’s 25 points, bounced back from a two-game skid to even their record at 22-22.

Tyler Herro led all scorers with 25 points, pacing a Miami offense that finally found its rhythm. Bam Adebayo recorded a dominant double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds, controlling the paint on both ends. Nikola Jovic added 17 points, six rebounds, and four assists, showcasing his versatility. Duncan Robinson chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds, providing a steady presence off the bench.

The Heat overcame 22 turnovers by connecting on 46.4% of their 3-point attempts (13-for-28). It marked just the third time in their last 23 games that Miami shot over 45% from beyond the arc.

Brooklyn, now 14-32, dropped its sixth straight game and 22nd in its last 27 contests. D’Angelo Russell and Keon Johnson each scored 22 points, while Jalen Wilson flirted with a triple-double, tallying 12 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. However, the Nets were undone by poor shooting, managing just 37.5% from the field and 35% from 3-point range (14-for-40).

The loss also extended Brooklyn’s home losing streak to 10 games. The Nets haven’t won at Barclays Center since December 4, when they defeated the Indiana Pacers 99-90.

After trailing by 11 in the first half and four at halftime, Brooklyn briefly pulled even at 61 midway through the third quarter, thanks to two 3-pointers from Russell. However, the Heat responded with a decisive 7-0 run and closed the quarter with a 21-7 surge, fueled by 4-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc in the period. Miami’s timely shooting and defensive adjustments proved too much for the Nets to overcome.

The Heat snapped a two-game skid with an efficient offensive performance. Despite their turnover woes, Miami’s s hot shooting from deep made the difference.

On Vince Carter’s special night, the Nets showed glimpses of competitiveness but couldn’t overcome their offensive inefficiency. The team continues to struggle at home, with their last victory at Barclays Center coming nearly two months ago.

The Miami Heat will return home to host the Orlando Magic on Monday, while the Brooklyn Nets will look to end their home losing streak against the Sacramento Kings.

Despite the result, the evening belonged to Vince Carter, a Brooklyn legend celebrated for his contributions to the franchise and the game of basketball.
