Inter Miami CF Dominate New York Red Bulls 4-1 at Chase Stadium

Inter Miami CF put on a dazzling display of attacking football on Saturday night, powering past the New York Red Bulls with a convincing 4-1 victory at Chase Stadium. Goals from Fafa Picault, Marcelo Weigandt, Luis Suárez, and Lionel Messi sealed a statement win for the home side in front of a jubilant South Florida crowd.

Gerardo “Tata” Martino’s side wasted no time asserting dominance, fielding a starting XI led by captain Lionel Messi and fellow striker Suárez. Behind them, the midfield quartet of Tadeo Allende, Sergio Busquets, Yannick Bright, and Picault controlled the tempo, while the defense featured Weigandt, Noah Allen, Gonzalo Luján, and Jordi Alba. Veteran goalkeeper Óscar Ustari held his post between the sticks.

The breakthrough came early, in the 9th minute, when Picault netted his third goal of the regular season. A flowing move down the right saw Weigandt deliver a cross into the box, where Suárez flicked a deft header into the path of Picault. The Haitian international finished with composure on the volley to make it 1-0. The assist marked Suárez’s sixth of the MLS season, while Weigandt tallied his second secondary assist.

Weigandt would soon go from provider to scorer, doubling the lead in the 30th minute. After his initial header was blocked in a crowded penalty area, the Argentine right-back pounced on the rebound to fire home his first goal for the Club.

Just nine minutes later, Suárez etched his name onto the scoresheet. The Uruguayan striker showed his trademark poise in the box after his first attempt was blocked, burying the rebound into the bottom left corner with a left-footed strike for his second goal of the season.

Despite the dominant first half, New York managed to pull one back in the 43rd minute through Mohammed Sofo, whose well-timed finish gave the Red Bulls a glimmer of hope heading into halftime at 3-1.

However, Inter Miami refused to relinquish control. In the 67th minute, Lionel Messi added a touch of brilliance to the night. Latching onto a slick pass from substitute Telasco Segovia, the World Cup champion surged into the area and smashed a left-footed volley into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the campaign. Segovia earned his third assist in league play with the setup.

The 4-1 scoreline would hold through the final whistle, securing Inter Miami all three points and further reinforcing their attacking prowess in the 2025 MLS season.

Inter Miami will look to carry this momentum on the road as they face Minnesota United FC next Saturday, May 10 at Allianz Field in Saint Paul. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. ET.
