JetBlue is making a major investment in South Florida by significantly expanding its operations at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, a move that comes just months after Spirit Airlines ended operations. The expansion is designed to serve travelers who lost access to Spirit’s extensive route network while strengthening JetBlue’s position in one of Florida’s busiest aviation markets. Eleven New Destinations Added
As part of its expansion, JetBlue is launching its largest schedule ever from Fort Lauderdale, introducing 11 new destinations while increasing service on several existing routes. The new domestic destinations include Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Nashville, Charlotte, Baltimore, Indianapolis, Columbus, and Ponce, Puerto Rico. The airline is also expanding its international network with new nonstop service to Barranquilla and Cali, Colombia, providing additional travel options for passengers flying between South Florida and Latin America.
Filling the Gap Left by Spirit
Spirit Airlines operated its largest hub at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport before shutting down, making the airport one of the hardest-hit locations following the carrier’s collapse. The airline has offered special fares for travelers affected by Spirit’s shutdown and launched a status match program that allows eligible Spirit loyalty members to transfer their status to JetBlue’s TrueBlue rewards program.
