Marlins Blank Angels 3-0 Behind Edward Cabrera’s Dominant Outing

Edward Cabrera struck out a season-high 10 batters across 5 2/3 scoreless innings, and the Miami Marlins capitalized on timely hitting to defeat the Los Angeles Angels 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Angel Stadium.

Cabrera (1-1) finally secured his first win of the season in his eighth appearance, matching his longest outing of the year while allowing just three hits and two walks. The right-hander baffled Angels hitters with a sharp mix of pitches, setting the tone in Miami’s fifth series victory of the season — and their first on the road.

The Marlins scratched out runs in three consecutive innings to give Cabrera all the support he needed. In the third, rookie Javier Sanoja lofted a sacrifice fly to left field to plate the game’s first run. An inning later, Otto Lopez led off with a single, stole second, and came home on a clutch two-out single to center by Connor Norby, making it 2-0.

Miami added its final run in the fifth inning when Sanoja and Jesús Sánchez lined back-to-back doubles to push the lead to 3-0.

On the mound, the Marlins’ bullpen continued Cabrera’s dominance. Steven Okert, Anthony Bender, and Ronny Henriquez combined for 3 1/3 innings of one-hit relief. Henriquez worked a clean ninth inning to earn his first career save.

A pivotal moment came in the bottom of the sixth, as the Angels threatened with two runners aboard and two outs. Taylor Ward drilled a deep foul ball down the left-field line that nearly cleared the wall. On the next pitch, Bender struck out Ward to end the threat and preserve the three-run cushion.

The Angels struggled at the plate throughout, managing just three hits — all singles except for Travis d’Arnaud’s double in the second. Los Angeles hitters struck out 15 times as they were blanked for the seventh time this season.

Kyle Hendricks (2-6) pitched well enough to keep the Angels in the game, allowing three runs on seven hits over six innings, but lacked run support.

The Marlins (8-15 on the road) now head to San Diego to begin a series against the Padres on Monday, sending left-hander Ryan Weathers (1-0, 1.80 ERA) to the mound against his former team.

Meanwhile, the Angels open a high-profile home series against the New York Yankees, with right-hander Jack Kochanowicz (3-5, 5.03 ERA) scheduled to take the ball in Monday’s opener.
