The Miami Marlins struck early and leaned on a dominant outing from right-hander Eury Pérez to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 5–3 on Sunday, snapping a four-game losing streak and avoiding a series sweep.
Pérez (2–1) delivered one of his sharpest performances of the young season, allowing just three hits and one unearned run over six innings while striking out seven and walking only one. The 21-year-old right-hander set the tone early and kept Milwaukee’s lineup off balance throughout his outing, helping Miami secure just its second win in the past nine games.
Miami wasted little time jumping on Brewers starter Jacob Misiorowski in the opening inning.
Misiorowski came out firing triple-digit heat—five of his first six pitches registered at 101 mph or higher—but control issues quickly surfaced. After walking Jakob Marsee, the Marlins loaded the bases on a single by Xavier Edwards and an error by shortstop David Hamilton.
Marsee scored on a wild pitch, Edwards crossed the plate on a double-play ball, and Liam Hicks followed with a two-out RBI single to give Miami a quick 3–0 advantage.
Misiorowski (1–2) ultimately settled in but finished with three runs allowed—only one earned—on four hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out nine and now leads the majors with 42 strikeouts, showcasing electric stuff despite the early damage. Impressively, 24 of his 97 pitches topped 100 mph.
Milwaukee trimmed the deficit to 3–1 in the sixth inning when Hamilton walked, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error by Hicks, and scored on a groundout by Garrett Mitchell.
The Marlins answered immediately. Pinch-hitter Javier Sanoja delivered a clutch two-run single off reliever DL Hall later in the sixth to restore breathing room and push Miami’s lead to 5–1.
Kyle Stowers, making his season debut, added a strong performance at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a double.
The Brewers threatened in the eighth inning when Gary Sánchez delivered a two-out, two-run single to cut the deficit to 5–3. However, reliever Calvin Faucher escaped further trouble by retiring pinch-hitter William Contreras on a fly ball to end the rally.
Closer Pete Fairbanks handled the ninth inning with authority, striking out two batters to earn his third save in four chances and seal the victory for Miami.
Meanwhile, Milwaukee’s Brice Turang continued his consistency at the plate, extending his on-base streak to 25 games dating back to last season.
Marlins manager Clayton McCullough was ejected in the second inning after arguing a balk call, adding an extra spark to a game that already featured high velocity, early scoring, and late tension.
Miami opens a three-game series Monday against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals, with right-hander Max Meyer (1–0, 4.12 ERA) scheduled to start opposite Michael McGreevy (1–1, 2.49 ERA).
Milwaukee travels to Detroit next, where left-hander Kyle Harrison (1–1, 3.07 ERA) will take the mound Tuesday to begin a three-game set against the Tigers.
