No. 19 South Florida continues to roll through the American Athletic Conference, showing no signs of slowing down. Quarterback Byrum Brown threw three touchdown passes and ran for another as the Bulls racked up 522 yards of offense in a dominant 48-13 victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday night.
With the win, South Florida (6-1, 3-0 AAC) became bowl eligible for the third straight season and strengthened its case as the frontrunner for the Group of Five’s New Year’s Six bowl berth — and possibly more.
Brown was electric, completing 14 of 24 passes for 256 yards while adding 111 yards and a score on the ground. His precision and poise set the tone early as South Florida’s balanced offense overwhelmed the Owls on both sides of the ball.
The Bulls got touchdown receptions from Jeremiah Koger, Jonathan Echols, and Wyatt Sullivan, spreading the ball across multiple playmakers. Koger led all receivers with four catches for 90 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown that gave USF an early spark. Running back Nykahi Davenport chipped in with 71 yards and a touchdown as South Florida pulled away with 27 unanswered points after leading 21-13 midway through the second quarter.
“We wanted to make a statement tonight,” coach Alex Golesh said. “Our guys played with discipline, executed on both sides, and showed the kind of team we can be when we finish.”
Florida Atlantic (3-4, 2-2 AAC) struggled to sustain drives despite a strong first quarter. Quarterback Caden Vetkamp finished 35 of 50 for 244 yards with a touchdown and one interception. His top target, Assad Wassem, caught eight passes for 56 yards, but the Owls’ running game was completely shut down — held to minus-4 yards rushing in the first half and only 23 total for the game, most of which came on their final possession after both teams emptied their benches.
That defensive dominance set the tone for South Florida’s surge. The Bulls’ front seven consistently collapsed the pocket and swarmed ball carriers, forcing FAU into a one-dimensional attack.
Florida Atlantic’s two-game win streak came to an abrupt end, dropping the Owls below .500.
Meanwhile, South Florida joins Tulane and Navy as the only AAC teams still unbeaten in conference play. Ranked inside the top 20 for the first time since 2016, the Bulls appear to be building toward something much bigger than just bowl eligibility.
“This team believes,” Golesh said. “We’ve earned the right to play meaningful games in October and November — and we’re not done yet.”
