No. 6 Miami Survives Wild 52-45 Win Over Louisville

In a thrilling Week 8 ACC matchup, the No. 6 Miami Hurricanes defeated the Louisville Cardinals 52-45, holding off multiple comeback attempts from the Cardinals. Miami quarterback Cameron Ward was instrumental in the victory, throwing for four touchdowns and utilizing a mix of time provided by his offensive line and his own ability to extend plays.

The high-scoring affair saw Ward deliver his seventh consecutive 300-yard passing performance, setting a school record. He completed 21 of 32 passes for 319 yards, surpassing the previous Miami record held by Tyler Van Dyke from 2021. Ward is now within striking distance of the Miami all-time record for 300-yard games—11—shared by Van Dyke and Brad Kaaya.

Miami (7-0, 3-0 ACC) is off to its best start since going 10-0 in 2017, and this win added another exciting chapter to a series known for its high-scoring nature. The Hurricanes withstood multiple rallies from Louisville, including a game-tying 4-yard touchdown pass from Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough to Duke Watson early in the fourth quarter.

Ward responded quickly, connecting with Samuel Brown on a 59-yard pass that set up a 2-yard touchdown run by Ajay Allen, giving Miami the lead with 11:17 remaining. Damien Martinez added a crucial 30-yard touchdown run with just over four minutes left, providing the Hurricanes a cushion. Despite another Louisville surge, the Hurricanes’ defense held firm in the closing moments.

Miami’s offense outgained Louisville 538 to 448 yards, with Xavier Restrepo catching nine passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. Samuel Brown led Miami with 125 yards on three receptions, while Jacolby George and Brown each caught scoring passes of 27 and 49 yards, respectively.

Louisville (4-3, 2-2 ACC) battled throughout the game, with Shough completing 31 of 51 passes for 342 yards and four touchdowns. Ja’Corey Brooks contributed six receptions for 107 yards, adding to Louisville’s dynamic passing attack.

The Hurricanes‘ ability to execute big plays and respond to Louisville’s rallies made the difference in a shootout that lived up to its billing. With Ward’s poise under pressure and Miami’s complementary run game, the Hurricanes emerged victorious, staying undefeated and firmly in control of their ACC fate.
