Panthers Rally Past Canucks 3-2 in Overtime as Brady Tkachuk Completes Second Straight Natural Hat Trick

Brady Tkachuk Delivers Another Hat Trick to Lead Florida Comeback

The Florida Panthers erased a two goal deficit Thursday night, as Brady Tkachuk completed his second consecutive natural hat trick with a spectacular overtime goal to lift Florida to a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

Tkachuk scored three straight goals Tuesday night during Florida’s 7-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets, recording all three in the second period. He carried that momentum into Thursday’s matchup, delivering another remarkable performance to help the Panthers secure the comeback win.

With goaltender Akira Schmid pulled for an extra attacker, Tkachuk tied the game with just 13 seconds remaining in regulation. He fired a one-timer from the right faceoff circle past Vancouver goaltender Leevi Merilainen to send the game into overtime. Tkachuk then completed the comeback with a nifty move through the middle in overtime, finishing his second straight natural hat trick and giving the Panthers another dramatic victory.

Canucks Strike Twice in the First Period

Vancouver controlled much of the early action, building a 2-0 lead with a pair of first-period goals. Liam Ohgren opened the scoring at 7:23 after a Florida turnover. Ohgren collected a pass from Linus Karlsson and snapped a shot from the high slot past Schmid to give the Canucks the early advantage.

Elias Pettersson extended Vancouver’s lead to 2-0 with 2:54 remaining in the opening period. Filip Chytil, making his season debut after recovering from a preseason shoulder injury, set up Pettersson for a shot from the slot that resulted in his third goal of the season. The two goals put Florida in an early hole, but Vancouver was unable to maintain its advantage as the Panthers mounted their third-period comeback. Merilainen turned aside 36 shots for the Canucks, while Schmid stopped 15 shots for Florida.

Tkachuk Takes Over Late as Panthers Complete Rally

With time running out in regulation, Tkachuk sparked Florida’s comeback by scoring with 8:49 remaining in the third period. He fired a shot from the top of the right circle past Merilainen to cut Vancouver’s lead to 2-1.

The Panthers continued to pressure the Canucks, and their persistence paid off in the closing seconds. With Schmid on the bench for an extra attacker, Tkachuk found the back of the net with 13 seconds left, forcing overtime and setting the stage for his game-winning heroics.

In overtime, Tkachuk finished the job with an impressive individual move up the middle, completing his second consecutive natural hat trick and sending Florida home with a 3-2 victory. The Panthers’ ability to rally from a two-goal deficit highlighted their resilience, while Tkachuk continued a remarkable scoring stretch that has made him the centerpiece of Florida’s recent offensive success.

Panthers Lose Luostarinen to Injury

Florida also suffered a potential injury concern during the third period when forward Eetu Luostarinen crashed into the end boards following a clean hit from Pettersson. Luostarinen left the play after the collision, leaving the Panthers to monitor his status following the game.

Meanwhile, Vancouver made a roster move before puck drop, trading forward Aatu Raty to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for fellow forwards Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr. The transaction came as the Canucks continued searching for answers during a difficult stretch of the season.

Canucks Continue Losing Streak

The defeat extended Vancouver’s losing streak to six games, with the Canucks dropping their first five contests of a six-game road trip. After establishing a two-goal lead in the opening period, Vancouver struggled to contain Florida’s late offensive push.

The Canucks appeared poised to end their skid before Tkachuk’s tying goal in the final seconds and his overtime finish turned the game around. For Florida, the victory provided another boost as the Panthers continue to build momentum behind Tkachuk’s outstanding performances.

Saturday Night Hockey Up Next for Panthers and Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks continue their road trip Saturday with a matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Florida Panthers return home Saturday night to host the Seattle Kraken, looking to carry their comeback victory and Tkachuk’s scoring momentum into their next game.
