South Carolina Shocks No. 10 Texas A&M with Commanding 44-20 Victory in SEC Week 10 Showdown

In a triumphant breakthrough for South Carolina, the Gamecocks defeated No. 10 Texas A&M 44-20 on Saturday night, showcasing resilience and power on both sides of the ball. For South Carolina, this victory was more than just an upset; it marked the first time in recent history they conquered an elite SEC playoff contender, ending a streak of close calls that had defined their season thus far.

Freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers was a standout force, leading his team with 106 rushing yards and 244 passing yards. With two touchdown passes and a rushing score, Sellers embodied the Gamecocks’ spirit and determination, delivering his best performance of the season. Raheim Sanders, a senior transfer from Arkansas, was equally instrumental, rushing for 144 yards and two touchdowns against a Texas A&M defense that had previously allowed an average of only 104.5 rushing yards per game. Sanders’ explosive plays, including a 45-yard touchdown sprint, gave the Aggies’ defense no time to recover.

South Carolina came out swinging, opening up a quick 14-0 lead within the first six minutes. Despite the Aggies’ best efforts to rally and even take the lead briefly before halftime, the Gamecocks’ defensive unit consistently thwarted Texas A&M’s offensive attempts. South Carolina’s defense proved particularly resilient on fourth down, stuffing the Aggies twice on fourth-and-1 situations and intercepting Texas A&M freshman quarterback Marcel Reed early in the fourth quarter, stalling any hopes of an Aggies comeback.

Reed, stepping in for the injured Conner Weigman, went 18-for-28 with 206 passing yards, one interception, and added 46 rushing yards. However, the Aggies’ offense struggled to maintain its usual rhythm without their star rusher Le’Veon Moss, who left the game early with an injury. Coach Mike Elko remained hopeful that Moss’ injury was not severe but acknowledged the setback’s impact on Texas A&M’s offensive dynamics.

This loss dampens the Aggies’ previously unbeaten SEC record and complicates their path to an SEC Championship bid. Though Texas A&M still holds a viable chance at the title, they’ll need to secure wins in their final two games against Auburn and archrival Texas. Their history in the SEC has been devoid of championship appearances, but a strong finish could keep their hopes alive.

This victory underscores South Carolina’s potential as one of the SEC’s most unpredictable teams. Having taken top teams like LSU and Alabama down to the wire, the Gamecocks proved they can compete with anyone in the league. Now at 5-3, they are one win away from bowl eligibility, and with a game against FCS opponent Wofford still on their schedule, postseason play is within reach.

For South Carolina, this win against Texas A&M could be a defining moment as they head into the final stretch of the season. The Gamecocks finally broke through against a top-tier SEC team, signaling to the league that they’re capable of more than close losses—and they may be just getting started.
