The Cheetah is Free: The Miami Dolphins Release WR Tyreek Hill

Run, cheetah, run! You are a free man now. WR Tyreek Hill was released by the Miami Dolphins on February 16 of this year. This was largely due to salary-cap concerns. During his Dolphins career, Hill had incredible, standout seasons, including back-to-back 1,700-yard years in 2022 and 2023, but he struggled greatly in the last two. Over the last two seasons, Hill played a full 2024 season, recording 81 receptions for 959 yards and 6 touchdowns. In 2025, however, he played just 4 games before his season ended due to a serious knee injury in Week 4. During that short stint, he had 21 receptions for 265 yards and 1 touchdown. Now 31, and recovering from a torn ACL, he’s a free agent for the first time in his career, and he’s vowed to return strong.

Tyreek’s cap-hit breakdown of $51.1 million included a $29.9 million base salary, a $5 million roster bonus, and a prorated bonus. None of it was fully guaranteed, and he would have secured $16 million if he stayed on the roster past the third day of the league year. But Miami cut him before that deadline to free up that cap space.

Tyreek Hill has had an impressive NFL career. He was a Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, an 8-time Pro Bowler, and a 5-time First-Team All-Pro. In 2023, he led the league in receiving yards with 1,799 and became the first player in NFL history to have 1,700-plus yards in multiple seasons. He was also named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame All-2010s Team and was ranked the number one player on the NFL Top 100 in 2024.

Tyreek Hill has been tied to several controversies over the years. In 2014, he was convicted of domestic assault while at college. In 2019, there was a child abuse investigation after his son suffered a broken arm, though no charges were filed. In 2023, he was investigated for an incident at a marina. In 2024, a model sued Hill, claiming he broke her leg during a drill, and in 2025, his estranged wife alleged multiple domestic violence incidents, leading the NFL to open another investigation.

Maybe because it was on a police body-cam video, but Hill had his most widely talked about incident when he was involved in a controversy with the Miami-Dade Police in September 2024. Just before the Dolphins’ season opener, he was pulled over for speeding and, after a tense interaction, was forcibly removed from his car and handcuffed. The citations were later dismissed when the officers didn’t appear in court, and an internal investigation was launched, raising wider concerns about policing and use of force.

Other than his speed, his amazing stats, and his controversies off the field, Tyreek is known for being a “playboy” who likes to have babies with many women. Tyreek Hill has publicly acknowledged having at least six children with five different partners. Specifically, he has three kids with his former fiancée Crystal Espinal, one with Brittany Lackner, one with Kimberly Kaylee Baker, one with Camille Valmon, and a daughter with his estranged spouse Keeta Vaccaro. While some media outlets report he has seven children in total, the exact number isn’t fully confirmed, as other potential paternity cases remain private or unverified.

There is no serious talk so far this off-season about where he is going to wind up, but a return to Kansas City, the New England Patriots, the Buffalo Bills, and the Baltimore Ravens seems to be on a lot of people’s lists. You will know when SFL.media knows.
