Lee County Man Arrested After Detectives Seize More Than One Kilogram of Cocaine Delivered Through the Mail
LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A Lee County man is facing serious felony charges after detectives intercepted a package containing more than one kilogram of cocaine that was allegedly shipped through the U.S. Postal Service, authorities said. The investigation began after postal workers alerted law enforcement to a suspicious package believed to contain illegal narcotics being delivered to a residence on Centennial Boulevard in Lehigh Acres.
According to investigators, detectives established surveillance at the home and monitored the delivery of the package as part of a controlled operation. Authorities say Sergio Davila later arrived at the residence, retrieved the package, and drove away. Deputies initiated a traffic stop shortly afterward.
During the stop, investigators allege Davila attempted to throw the package out of the vehicle’s window in an apparent effort to dispose of the evidence before deputies could recover it. Law enforcement officials quickly secured the package and determined it contained more than one kilogram of cocaine, a quantity that meets the threshold for cocaine trafficking under Florida law.
Davila was taken into custody without further incident. He has been charged with cocaine trafficking and tampering with evidence. Additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
Authorities have not released details regarding the package’s origin or intended destination, and investigators have not indicated whether they believe others were involved in the alleged drug trafficking operation. The case remains under investigation. Under Florida law, trafficking in more than one kilogram of cocaine is a first degree felony that carries severe mandatory minimum penalties upon conviction, though all criminal charges are allegations until proven in court.
