Wolf Shines, Balanced Flames Attack Powers Calgary Past Panthers 4–1 for Second Straight Win

The Calgary Flames continued their late-season push with a convincing 4–1 victory over the Florida Panthers on Friday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome, powered by a strong performance in net from Dustin Wolf and balanced scoring throughout the lineup.

Wolf stopped 24 shots to secure the win as Calgary earned its second straight victory and extended its dominance at home against Florida, improving to seven consecutive home wins over the Panthers. Florida has not won in Calgary since Feb. 17, 2018.

Newcomer Victor Olofsson opened his account with the Flames, scoring his first goal since arriving from the Colorado Avalanche at the trade deadline in the deal that sent Nazem Kadri back to Colorado. Olofsson’s milestone tally helped spark Calgary’s offensive effort after a scoreless opening period.

Joel Farabee, Morgan Frost, and Matt Coronato also scored for Calgary. With their goals, each moved into a tie with Blake Coleman for the team lead at 16 goals apiece this season, underscoring the Flames’ balanced scoring attack.

Florida’s lone goal came from A.J. Greer, but the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions continued to struggle as they attempt to avoid becoming the first title-winning team since the Los Angeles Kings in 2014–15 to miss the playoffs the following season. The Panthers remain 13 points behind the final Eastern Conference wild-card spot.

Calgary broke the deadlock midway through the second period. At 7:44, Farabee’s shot redirected off Panthers defenseman Niko Mikkola and into the net to give the Flames a lead they would not relinquish.

The game turned heated late in the third period when Greer was ejected with 8:46 remaining after hooking Connor Zary and shoving him head-first into the boards. Zary remained down on the ice for several minutes before slowly skating off with assistance from the team’s trainer. Officials assessed Greer a hooking minor, an interference major, and a game misconduct. Calgary capitalized on the extended power play, with Frost and Coronato scoring to put the game out of reach.

Florida’s night worsened shortly afterward when Mikkola appeared to suffer a serious knee injury in an accidental collision with Ryan Strome. Mikkola was left writhing in pain and clutching his left knee before being helped from the ice.

Despite a strong effort from goaltender Daniil Tarasov, who made 32 saves, the Panthers dropped their sixth game in their last seven starts.

Calgary’s home dominance and balanced offense provided a needed boost as the Flames continue their push down the stretch, while Florida faces mounting urgency in its playoff chase.

The Panthers return home to host the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday night, while the Flames welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday night.
