Florida Atlantic University (FAU)

Is a public research university located in Boca Raton, Florida.

The university was founded in 1961 and is part of the State University System of Florida. FAU has several campuses throughout South Florida, including its main campus in Boca Raton, a campus in Davie, and additional locations in Fort Lauderdale, Jupiter, and Port St. Lucie. The university offers over 170 undergraduate and graduate degree programs across ten colleges, including the College of Business, the College of Engineering and Computer Science, and the College of Education. The university has a diverse student body of over 30,000 students and is known for its innovative research programs, including those in neuroscience, oceanography, and biotechnology. In addition, FAU is home to several notable research centers, such as the Center for Complex Systems and Brain Sciences and the Institute for Sensing and Embedded Network Systems Engineering. FAU’s athletic teams are known as the Owls, and the university competes in NCAA Division I sports as a member of Conference USA. The university has several notable alumni, including journalist Megyn Kelly, actor Bob Vila, and politician Allen West.

The History of the FAU Men’s Basketball Team

Is the basketball team that represents Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. The team competes in the Conference USA and has been a member since 2013. Florida Atlantic on October 21st, 2021 accepted an invitation to join American Athletic Conference. On July 1st, 2023 Florida Atlantic will make the move to its new destination. The program began in 1988 and has had several coaches throughout its history, including Sidney Green, Matt Doherty, Rex Walters, and Michael Curry. The team made one appearance in the NCAA tournament in 2002, where they were defeated in the first round by Alabama. In recent years, the team has been led by head coach Dusty May, who took over in 2018. Under May’s leadership, the team has had a few winning seasons and has shown improvement in its performance. In 2023 Dusty May has led them to there 1st ever Final 4 appearance. The Owls play their home games at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena, which has a capacity of 5,000 spectators. The team’s mascot is Owlsley, and their colors are blue, red, and gray.

Is the head coach of the Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball team. He was hired as the head coach in March 2018, replacing Michael Curry. May has over 15 years of coaching experience and has worked with several notable programs, including the University of Florida, Louisiana Tech, and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He has also worked as an assistant coach under notable head coaches such as Billy Donovan and Mike White. Since taking over the FAU men’s basketball program, May has focused on improving the team’s performance both on and off the court. Under his leadership, the team has shown steady improvement and has had a few winning seasons. May is known for his high-energy coaching style and his focus on developing players both on and off the court. In addition to his coaching duties, May is actively involved in the community and has worked with several local charities and organizations.

“FAU Winning in Paradise”

Is a phrase used to describe the Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball team’s success in the annual Cayman Islands Classic basketball tournament, which takes place in George Town, Grand Cayman. In 2019, FAU won the tournament championship, defeating three teams in three days, including Southern Illinois, South Dakota State, and, in the championship game, the University of Illinois at Chicago. FAU guard Cornelius Taylor was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. The tournament is played at John Gray Gymnasium, a small venue that holds about 1,500 spectators and is known for its festive atmosphere and unique location. The success that FAU has had in the tournament has made them a fan favorite and has helped to raise the profile of the program.
