Amanda Nunes is a Brazilian mixed martial artist who has made a significant impact in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA), particularly in the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) promotion. Born on May 30, 1988, in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, Nunes has established herself as one of the greatest female fighters in the history of the sport.

Nunes began her professional MMA career in 2008, competing in regional promotions in Brazil. She gained attention for her aggressive fighting style, knockout power, and well-rounded skills. In 2013, Nunes made her UFC debut in the women’s bantamweight division.

Nunes quickly rose through the ranks, earning notable victories over respected fighters such as Germaine de Randamie, Valentina Shevchenko, and Sara McMann. In 2016, she faced off against the then-dominant champion, Miesha Tate, at UFC 200 and secured a first-round submission victory to claim the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship.

Following her championship win, Nunes went on to defend her title multiple times, defeating challengers such as Ronda Rousey, Valentina Shevchenko (in a rematch), Raquel Pennington, and Holly Holm. She showcased her versatility by winning fights via knockout, submission, and decision, solidifying her reputation as one of the most well-rounded fighters in the division.

In 2018, Nunes created history by moving up to the women’s featherweight division to challenge the dominant champion, Cris Cyborg, at UFC 232. Nunes shocked the world by knocking out Cyborg in just 51 seconds of the first round, becoming the first woman in UFC history to hold two titles simultaneously. This victory solidified Nunes’ status as one of the greatest fighters, pound-for-pound, in the sport.

Nunes continued to defend both her bantamweight and featherweight titles, defeating challengers such as Holly Holm and Felicia Spencer. With each successful title defense, Nunes further cemented her legacy as one of the most dominant and accomplished fighters in the history of women’s MMA.
