Best Buy Stove Recall
Best Buy is recalling approximately 3,800 Insignia gas ranges sold across the United States after discovering that a defect in the appliances’ control knobs could allow the burners to turn on unintentionally, creating a potential fire hazard.
The recall was announced in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), which warned that the front-mounted burner knobs can be activated by accidental contact from people or even household pets. If a burner is switched on without anyone noticing, it could ignite nearby items or allow gas to escape, increasing the risk of fire.
Which Gas Ranges Are Affected
The recall includes two models of Insignia front-control gas ranges:
• NS-RGFGSS1
• NS-RGFCGS2
The stainless steel ranges feature five burners with controls located on the front of the appliance. Consumers can find the model number on a label located behind the bottom storage drawer.
The recalled ranges were sold exclusively at Best Buy stores and through Best Buy’s website between November 2020 and March 2026. Prices ranged from about $280 to $1,470 depending on the model.
In addition to the 3,800 units sold in the United States, about 700 were sold in Canada.
One Incident Reported
According to federal safety officials, one report of an unintended burner activation has been received. No injuries or fires have been reported, but regulators say the potential danger is serious enough to warrant an immediate recall.
Gas ranges that can be activated accidentally present a significant safety risk because burners may ignite combustible materials or release natural gas if left unattended.
What Owners Should Do
Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled gas ranges until they receive a free replacement knob kit from Best Buy. The redesigned knobs are intended to prevent accidental activation.
Until the replacement parts are installed, owners should keep children and pets away from the appliance, ensure all knobs are fully turned off after cooking, and avoid placing objects on top of the stove that could accidentally press against the controls.
Customers can contact Best Buy to request the free repair kit and obtain additional instructions for completing the recall.
Consumer Safety Remains A Priority
Product recalls involving household appliances are issued when manufacturers or regulators determine that a defect could pose a risk to consumers, even if only a small number of incidents have occurred. Safety officials encourage consumers to register appliances after purchase and routinely check recall notices to ensure products in their homes remain safe to use.
