Brooklyn Man Claims Auto Shop Has Held His Car for Over a Year, Racking Up Thousands in Parking Tickets

Brooklyn Auto Shop Holds Car, Racks Up Fines

A Brooklyn man is fighting to reclaim his car after an auto repair shop allegedly kept it for more than a year and a half, all while accumulating thousands of dollars in parking tickets.

The man, who brought his vehicle to the shop for repairs, says what should have been a routine fix turned into a nightmare. Instead of returning his car in a timely manner, the shop allegedly kept it parked on public streets, leading to a growing pile of tickets issued by the city.

“I just wanted my car fixed, but now I’m stuck with fines that aren’t even my fault,” the man said. “They’ve had my car for over a year and a half, and every time I try to get it back, they give me the runaround.”

A Legal and Financial Mess

City records show the car has accumulated numerous parking violations, some for being left in no-parking zones and others for expired registration. The man says he only found out about the tickets when he started receiving collection notices.

Legal experts say the auto shop could be held responsible for the violations if they improperly stored the vehicle. However, the process of disputing the tickets and reclaiming the car could be lengthy and complicated.

Ongoing Battle for Resolution

Despite repeated attempts to recover his vehicle, the man says the shop has either refused to return it or demanded additional payment.

Local authorities have advised him to take legal action, and he is now considering filing a lawsuit. “I just want my car back and these tickets wiped away. This shouldn’t be happening to anyone,” he said.

City officials have yet to comment on the case, but legal experts warn that situations like this are not uncommon. Customers are urged to carefully review contracts with auto repair shops and ensure their vehicles are properly stored during repairs.
