Convicted Serial Rapist Sentenced to Nearly 300 Years in Prison

Convicted Serial Rapist Sentenced

A Missouri man convicted of raping seven women after meeting them through dating apps has been sentenced to 291 years in prison, concluding a case that spanned multiple investigations and victim testimonies over several years.

Yahya Maly, of Ballwin, Missouri, was convicted on 17 felony charges, including first-degree rape, attempted rape, second-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, and attempted sodomy. Prosecutors said he used dating applications to meet women, often creating a false sense of trust before carrying out sexual assaults.

Years of Crimes Against Multiple Women

According to evidence presented during the trial, the assaults occurred between 2023 and 2025 and involved seven women. Investigators said Maly targeted women he met online and manipulated them into meeting him in person before committing the attacks.

Several victims testified during the trial, describing the emotional and psychological trauma they experienced. Some said fear and embarrassment initially prevented them from reporting the crimes, while others spoke about the long-term impact the assaults had on their lives. Jurors ultimately found Maly guilty on 17 of 21 charges. He was acquitted on two assault charges and two kidnapping charges.

Judge Issues Lengthy Prison Sentence

During sentencing on June 16, the court imposed a combined prison term of 291 years. While some sentences will run concurrently, others will be served consecutively, effectively ensuring Maly will spend the rest of his life behind bars. The sentence was slightly lower than the 319 years recommended by jurors following the conviction.

Survivors Describe Lasting Impact

Several survivors attended the sentencing hearing and delivered victim impact statements. They spoke about years of emotional recovery, counseling, medication, and ongoing struggles stemming from the assaults.

The women also emphasized the importance of reporting sexual violence and supporting survivors throughout the legal process. Some called for increased safety measures on dating platforms to help prevent similar crimes from occurring in the future.

Appeal Planned

Defense attorneys indicated that Maly intends to appeal the convictions. Prosecutors, however, said the sentence represents justice for the seven women who came forward and helped secure the conviction through their testimony.

The case is considered one of the most significant serial sexual assault prosecutions in recent Missouri history, highlighting both the dangers posed by repeat offenders and the critical role survivors play in bringing them to justice.
