Florida State Overpowers Georgia Tech 91-78 Behind Bowen and Ewin’s Dominant Performances

Florida State’s balanced offensive attack propelled the Seminoles to a 91-78 victory over Georgia Tech on Saturday in an ACC showdown. Taylor Bowen led the charge with 20 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting performance, while Malique Ewin delivered a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

The Seminoles (13-5, 4-3 ACC) wasted no time establishing control, opening the game with a 15-2 run fueled by three early three-pointers. Dunks by Jamir Watkins and Bowen extended Florida State’s lead to 37-21 late in the first half before Georgia Tech’s Duncan Powell hit a three-pointer to narrow the deficit to 37-24 at the break.

Georgia Tech (8-11, 2-6) showed resilience in the second half, using a strong start to cut the lead to 37-34 within the first two minutes. Lance Terry, who finished with a game-high 23 points, and Javian McCollum, who added 20, helped the Yellow Jackets stay competitive. Powell, the only reserve to see action for Georgia Tech, contributed 20 points as the undermanned Yellow Jackets played just six players due to injuries.

Despite Georgia Tech’s push, Florida State responded with a decisive seven-point burst to rebuild a 44-34 lead. Late in the game, the Yellow Jackets made another surge, pulling within 70-66 on Terry’s three-pointer with five minutes left. However, the Seminoles answered immediately, scoring seven points in a minute. Ewin hit a jumper, Daquan Davis converted a three-point play, and Ewin sank two free throws to give Florida State a commanding 77-66 advantage with four minutes remaining.

Georgia Tech’s McCollum tried to spark another rally with a three-pointer, but Florida State closed the game emphatically with five consecutive dunks, pushing their lead to 86-69 with two minutes left to secure the win.

Watkins matched Ewin with 17 points for Florida State, rounding out a well-rounded effort. The Seminoles dominated inside, with Bowen and Ewin combining for 13-of-18 shooting from the field, while the team capitalized on key runs to stay ahead.

For Georgia Tech, the loss was another setback in a challenging season marked by injuries. Powell’s 20-point effort off the bench provided a bright spot, but the Yellow Jackets struggled to contain Florida State’s athleticism and depth.

Up next, Florida State heads west for matchups against California on Wednesday and Stanford on Saturday. Georgia Tech will look to bounce back as they host Virginia Tech on Wednesday.
