Woman Arrested for Burglarizing Deceased Boyfriend’s Miami Beach Apartment
Miami Beach police arrested Karina Orozco Gomez for allegedly burglarizing and vandalizing the apartment of her late boyfriend, Emmanuel Londono, just two months after his death. Authorities say Gomez stole jewelry and damaged several items in the South Beach apartment, including vases, a bookshelf, and a picture frame.
Surveillance Video Leads to Arrest
According to investigators, surveillance footage from the building captured Gomez entering and leaving the apartment on the night of the burglary in December. The video evidence, along with assistance from Londono’s mother, Gema Londono, played a pivotal role in identifying Gomez as a suspect.
“This woman decides to come with another man to my son’s apartment that is already empty,” said Gema Londono.
At the time of the burglary, a new tenant was in the process of moving into the unit.
A Mother’s Pain
Gema Londono expressed her heartbreak over the incident, describing her son as “a sweetheart” loved by everyone. Emmanuel Londono had died from cardiac arrest two months prior.
“I don’t know why she did that – maybe she wanted to go and steal my son’s stuff,” the grieving mother said. “None of my son’s belongings were hers.”
Police Condemn Actions
Miami Beach Police spokesperson Christopher Bess described the crime as “extremely heinous and wrong,” emphasizing the emotional toll on the victim’s family. “Our detectives are very empathetic in cases like this,” Bess stated, acknowledging the sentimental value tied to the items taken and destroyed.
Legal Consequences
A judge set Orozco’s bond at $3,150 and ordered her to remain under house arrest. Gema Londono, however, has called for stricter measures, including deporting Gomez to her home country of Guatemala.
The case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by grieving families who must contend not only with loss but also with the violation of their loved ones’ memories. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the burglary.
