Geraldo Rivera Endorses Kamala Harris, Calls Trump ‘Unfit’ for Office
Television personality Geraldo Rivera announced Monday that he is endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election, distancing himself from former President Donald Trump, whom he previously supported. Rivera, a former Fox News commentator and longtime ally of Trump, revealed his decision in a detailed post on the social media platform X, citing concerns over Trump’s actions following the 2020 election.
“Former President Trump is a sore loser who cannot be trusted to honor the Constitution,” Rivera wrote. “That is why I am voting for Kamala Harris to be our 47th President.”
Rivera’s post marks a significant departure from his past relationship with Trump. He revealed that he has not spoken to the former president since November 13, 2020, just days after Trump lost the election to President Joe Biden. Rivera recalled that in their last conversation, Trump sought his opinion on the election results, which at the time were being contested in several states.
“I asked him what he would do if the vote count remained against him,” Rivera explained. “He told me he was a reasonable man and would do the right thing if that time came.”
However, according to Rivera, Trump did the opposite, launching an “increasingly menacing campaign to discredit the 2020 election.” Rivera, who publicly opposed Trump’s attempts to undermine the results, said the former president cut ties with him after their disagreement, which echoes comments Rivera made in a 2022 interview with The New York Times.
In his post, Rivera criticized Trump supporters who continue to align with the former president despite his unfounded claims about a stolen election. “Maybe you are inclined to vote for the former president anyway because he says he will cut your taxes or build the border wall,” Rivera wrote. “However, you justify voting for Trump, adopting his big lie about the stolen election makes you a liar.”
Rivera, now a correspondent for News Nation, has been vocal about his disillusionment with Trump in recent years. He reiterated that he could never support the former president again, reaffirming comments he made in 2022 that he had permanently withdrawn his backing.
The Trump campaign has not yet responded to Rivera’s statements, though the former president continues to maintain his influence within the Republican Party as he campaigns for the presidency once again in 2024.
Rivera’s comments are part of a broader media discourse around Trump’s handling of the 2020 election. Former Fox News anchor Chris Wallace recently criticized his former network for promoting conspiracy theories about the election, stating, “The truth is nonnegotiable.”
As the 2024 election draws near, Rivera’s endorsement of Harris signals a clear break from his past support of Trump, reflecting the growing divisions within the media and political landscape surrounding the former president’s candidacy.
