Governor Ronald Dion DeSantis is doing everything in his power to make sure his name stays in the news.  He signs numerous bills into law that directly benefit his friends and tax bracket.  He takes women’s rights away to choose a safe abortion as well as reliable birth control methods because he is pro-life.  He suspends elected officials for simply stating their opinion because it does not align with his views.  He takes tax privileges away from companies that have been in business for over fifty years and that are responsible for bringing the majority of tourists into Central Florida every single year.  He takes funding away from major league sports teams in his own state for simply putting a comment online about gun control since Governor DeSantis wants Florida to be an open carry state.  That means that anyone can get a gun and carry it around with them wherever they go, even to church or to their place of business. All of this is pretty outstanding and not in a positive way.  This guy has been all wrong for our state yet he is still in power and is ruining our sunshine state!  Who can we get to stand up to him to stop him from further destruction of our state?  Someone, please stop this guy!

Governor Ron DeSantis Sends Migrants Unknowingly to Marthas Vineyard

His latest trick that he pulled out of his bag is paying for flights of immigrants that were coming from Texas and going to Massachusetts.  Nowhere in there was Florida mentioned yet our Governor DeSantis insisted on paying for those flights because he did not want the immigrants coming to Florida.  Two flights carrying forty-eight migrants from Venezuela arrived in Martha’s Vineyard on September 14, 2022, with absolutely no warning from Texas or Florida officials.  Some called it an invasion while it is actually being classified as a humanitarian crisis since no one was prepared for forty-eight individuals arriving with nothing but their clothes in a bag.  Housing, bathroom and shower facilities, and enough food for everyone were a bit of a struggle because again, no one knew these people were coming to the island.  Martha’s Vineyard is about nine miles wide and twenty-five miles long.  There are a few food banks and a few places that assist with the needs of the residents there who mainly work for the wealthy people with multi-million dollar vacation homes there.  When the migrants arrived, only one food bank was open for the next few hours but it was also seven miles away from the airport and the migrants had no way to get there in time.  It was even more of a struggle because the Red Cross was not helping out because they were not asked to provide any assistance even though they were in contact with Martha’s Vineyard emergency management teams.  The local homeless shelters were unable to house the migrants due to the fact that they do not have the appropriate services to care for that many people.

Governor DeSantis assumed that only wealthy people lived in Martha’s Vineyard and that they were all Democrats just because they are a sanctuary state. The migrants that arrived in Martha’s Vineyard came with folders that included a pamphlet with the phone number to Martha’s Vineyard Community Services stating that they would provide refugee services.  According to Beth Folcarelli, chief executive officer of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, she stated that the migrants “came with folders with a pamphlet with our information.  We do not have refugee services.  I had no idea about any of this.  I only found out because one of them gave me their folder.”  The migrants had let them know that a tall, blonde woman named “Perla” is the one who gave them the pamphlets and persuaded them to take the flight to Martha’s Vineyard.  The migrants were promised cash assistance, housing, and employment would be provided to them once they landed.  “States like Massachusetts, New York and California will better facilitate the care of these individuals who they have invited into our country by incentivizing illegal immigration through their designation as ‘sanctuary states’ and support for the Biden administration’s open border policies,” said Taryn Fenske, Governor DeSantis’s communication director.  Now there is a double standard.  The governor of our sunshine state is claiming that sanctuary states are incentivizing illegal immigration and he does not want any undocumented immigrants in Florida.  So, what did he do then by sending people to Texas to “weed out” the illegals that supposedly wanted to come to Florida and make sure they did not end up in his state?  A woman who said her name was Perla, approached migrants that were in a McDonald’s parking lot in San Antonio, Texas.  She was described as a tall, blonde woman who spoke to the migrants in broken Spanish.  So, what did she say to the migrants to win them over?  She told the migrants, many of whom were struggling financially and waiting for their immigration cases to resolve, that she could offer a free trip to Massachusetts and guarantee work, according to an account provided by one migrant, Eduardo Linares, who said he rejected Perla’s offer in Texas.  Other migrants, besides Linares, have said they were also approached by Perla. The Globe last week interviewed a migrant named Alejandro, who said that “Mrs. Perla” offered him “three months of rent, work, and said they were going to put our papers in order.” She took him and other migrants to a San Antonio, Texas hotel for four days.  She provided them with meals, and appeared to prepare their immigration paperwork,” Alejandro said. Afterward, he and other migrants were put on a plane and flown to Martha’s Vineyard.  So, how is this not incentivizing sanctuary states by the Republican party?  They made Massachusetts seem like the paradise the immigrants were in search of.  How did they not do anything wrong, or even worse, illegal?  Another immigrant, a 27-year-old Venezuelan named Emmanuel, said a woman named “Perla” paid him $200 to recruit others to board the flights.  Emmanuel said he gave her contact information for about ten migrants who were told the woman wanted to send them to “sanctuary states” with more resources for them.

Perla, along with Governor DeSantis, made false promises to these people who made their life-changing choices based on the information they were given. They were promised all of these resources from this sanctuary state that they were in fact not eligible to receive.  According to many legal experts, what Perla and Governor DeSantis did was illegal and can be classified as malfeasance.  These migrants were made to believe they were going to receive assistance once they got to Martha’s Vineyard.  They were lured onto the planes under false pretenses, crossed many state lines and once on the plane realized they were not going to Boston, which is where Perla told them they were going.  The migrants were instead left in Martha’s Vineyard because the Republicans of Texas and Florida do not agree with President Joe Biden’s immigration policies and open border policy.

Our Governor DeSantis is claiming that he funded the entire trip for the two planes full of “illegal immigrants.”  According to our governor, he has set aside twelve million dollars of our budget just to remove undocumented immigrants from our sunshine state, Florida.  DeSantis is claiming that the migrants were not misled and that they boarded the planes voluntarily.  Many are questioning why Governor DeSantis is paying for flights of “undocumented immigrants” that were located in Texas and sent to Massachusetts.  Neither flight originated in Florida.  These people were not undocumented immigrants.  They were fleeing Venezuela.  They were seeking asylum in the United States of America.  They had the appropriate paperwork to support their asylum-seeking wishes.  Yet somehow, Governor DeSantis, said they were “illegals” and they entered the country illegally.  How is this elected official still our governor?  Does he not know the difference between undocumented immigrants and asylum-seeking migrants?  There is a difference and he of all people should know it.  An undocumented immigrant is a person who lives or works in another country when they do not have the legal right to do either of those things.  An asylum seeker is a person who has left their country and is seeking protection from persecution or serious human rights violations in another country but who has yet to be recognized legally as a refugee.  They are also waiting for their asylum claim to be either approved or denied by a judge.  If they are denied, they will then usually be deported.

Governor DeSantis Spends COVID Relief Money On His Migrant Media Stunt

Florida has a budget under Governor DeSantis called the Freedom First Budget.  It has $109.9 billion dollars in it.  Of that, $12 million was set aside for what DeSantis calls the transport of unauthorized aliens out of Florida.  That money is also part of the COVID-19 relief our state was supposed to receive but was never put to use for what it was allocated for. Governor DeSantis is claiming the two flights he paid for out of that budget were part of the state’s (Florida) relocation program.  The only problem is…..they were in Texas!!!  Does DeSantis not know where the border of Florida stops?

Thankfully, there are people that are investigating this political stunt provided to us by our Governor DeSantis.  Some say it was malfeasance.  Some say it is illegal.  Some say it is considered human trafficking. Others say it is smuggling.  Trafficking is considered a crime when a person is forced, defrauded, or coerced into trafficking.  Even if the person goes voluntarily, it can mean nothing if the traffickers exploit the person.  Smuggling is a crime because it involves the illegal transport of people across a border.  Malfeasance is a type of wrongdoing that is done by a public official. In my opinion, it looks like our governor may have committed all of these crimes against these migrants that were seeking asylum here in America.

These migrants from Venezuela have since sued Governor DeSantis saying they were lied to about what would happen to them once they arrived in Martha’s Vineyard.  The promises they were told did not happen at all.  Obviously, Governor DeSantis and his “team” are saying these claims are false and that the migrants signed waivers. A DeSantis spokesperson showed the consent form to Fox News. The form, provided in English and Spanish, read: “I agree to hold the benefactor or its designed representatives harmless of all liability arising out of or in any way relating to any injuries and damages that may occur during the agreed transport to locations outside of Texas until the final destination in Massachusetts.”

This said the migrants were going to Massachusetts, they were told specifically Boston by Perla, yet somehow they were left in Martha’s Vineyard.  The reason they were left in Martha’s Vineyard is that it is where wealthy individuals have homes that are worth millions of dollars and are considered a sanctuary state.  It just so happens that former President Barack Obama, has a home there.

The lawsuits have been filed and action should be taken soon.  The Venezuelans claim in the lawsuit that agents of Governor DeSantis and the state of Florida promised them work and a place to live. Boston-based Lawyers for Civil Rights and Nonprofit Organization Alianza Americas filed the lawsuit on behalf of the migrants alleging that “when those induced onto the planes disembarked in Martha’s Vineyard, it turned out that no one was expecting their arrival, and uncertainty quickly ensued.”  This reiterates that the migrants were lied to and deceived with false promises in order to get on the plane and end up in Martha’s Vineyard to prove a political point to Democrats.

Republicans Hate Democrats For Sport Not Reason

In the end, Republicans do not agree with anything Democrats do.  Democrats do not agree with anything Republicans do.  What we all need to realize is that we are all individuals and we should all be treated with respect no matter what our political beliefs are.  What Governor DeSantis needs to realize is that there are many people in his state that are homeless, hungry or both.  People are being forced out of their homes, losing their jobs, and worrying about how they will feed their children.  Instead of using undocumented people as political pawns in your twisted chess match, worry about the people that live in your state and take care of them because the people of Martha’s Vineyard welcomed those Venezuelan asylum seekers with open arms.  They joined together to provide food, clothing, shelter, and compassion to the people you just dropped off in their state with nothing but empty promises and failed dreams.  You ought to be ashamed of yourself for the way you treated people that were legally seeking asylum here in the United States of America. Our sunshine state needs better from those we elect to office.  Your votes put DeSantis in office.  Do not put him back there in the upcoming election.  We cannot survive another four-year term with Ronald Dion DeSantis as our governor! Please consider everything this man has done in the past four years when you cast your vote.  Think of your family members that do not live in the United States of America.  Would Governor DeSantis treat them fairly if they were attempting to visit you or wanting to relocate here?
