Pride events are held all around the country this month as well as the world. Thankfully, people have become more open to the fact that there are gay people everywhere and they will not be silenced or hidden anymore. They have rights just like the rest of us and they deserve to celebrate and be happy! While the pride events are meant to be a celebration, they also serve another purpose. They are held to educate people and raise awareness of what LGBTQ+ people are going through. In many areas of America (Florida and Texas) and the rest of the world, discrimination exists toward anyone that does not conform to the “norm” that society views. Who are they to say what is “norm” and why do they have to punish people for being themselves and being happy? We all need to get along and accept people for who they are, as they are. People in politics are afraid of what they do not know or understand which is why they are going after anyone that is LGBTQ+. The Florida Governor is trying to make it a felony to take your child to a drag show and your parental rights will be terminated! What is the harm of taking YOUR kid to a drag show? There is no nudity and nothing bad will happen to YOUR kid at the show. It is just like taking your child to see a Disney show on ice or a matinee movie to see Jurassic World: Dominion. They are shows! It is entertainment! We need to take action to make sure mothers and fathers do not lose their children over this. Our Governor needs to stop taking away our freedoms and worry about things that actually harm the citizens of Florida, like guns!

Everyone is welcome to any of the events that are being held during Gay Pride month in Florida. No one will be denied entry to any event based on sexual preferences. So, make sure you dress comfortably, pack a go-bag and get celebrating. Celebrate with everyone. Have fun but be careful. There are people in the area that are not as accepting of LGBTQ+ people as others are. Keep an eye out for anything that is out of place. Remember that everyone is equal no matter who they love. Everyone has the same rights no matter who they love. Remember what you are celebrating and why you are celebrating it. Happy Gay Pride month everyone. Now go get your flags and fly them proudly. Show your support!
