Seminole Boosters Board of Directors
Former Florida State quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston is taking on a new role with the Seminoles as he looks to help his alma mater return to prominence in college football. The Seminole Boosters announced Thursday that Winston has joined the organization’s board of directors. The Seminole Boosters is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Florida State student-athletes while providing financial resources for athletic department projects, facility improvements and other enhancements to the university’s sports programs.
The organization played a role in providing financial assistance for the recent renovations at Doak Campbell Stadium. Winston’s addition brings one of the most recognizable figures in Florida State football history into a leadership position as the program works to rebuild following several difficult seasons.
Jameis Winston’s Historic Career at Florida State
Winston attended Florida State from 2012 to 2014 and quickly established himself as one of the most successful quarterbacks in college football. After redshirting as a true freshman in 2012, he took over as the Seminoles’ starting quarterback in 2013 and led the program through one of the greatest seasons in its history. During his first season as a starter, Winston guided Florida State to an undefeated 14-0 record and a national championship.
The Seminoles defeated Auburn in the BCS National Championship Game, securing the program’s third national title. Winston also captured the Heisman Trophy in 2013, joining Charlie Ward and Chris Weinke as the only players in Florida State history to win college football’s most prestigious individual award. His accomplishments made him one of the most celebrated players in Seminoles history, and his return to the program in an official leadership capacity adds another connection between the former star and his alma mater.
Florida State Looks to Rebuild After Difficult Seasons
Winston joins the Seminole Boosters board at a challenging time for Florida State football. The Seminoles fired head coach Mike Norvell on Sunday following a 36-24 loss to Clemson, dropping the team’s record to 3-5 this season.
The program has struggled to maintain the success it enjoyed during its undefeated 2023 campaign. Florida State finished that season with a 13-1 record but has gone just 10-22 since the beginning of the 2024 season.
The Seminoles have also struggled to find success in postseason play, having not won a bowl game since defeating Oklahoma in the Cheez-It Bowl in December 2022. With the program searching for a new direction, Winston’s involvement with the Seminole Boosters gives Florida State another prominent former player invested in its future.
His experience as a national championship-winning quarterback and one of the most accomplished players in school history could provide a valuable connection as the Seminoles work to restore their standing in the ACC and compete nationally once again.
