Man Arrested After Violent Dispute at Bradenton Gas Station
BRADENTON, Fla. – A heated argument at a Marathon gas station in Bradenton escalated into violence when a man reportedly ran over another individual with his car, authorities said.
Peter Sampson, 51, faces multiple charges following the altercation, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the gas station located at 2009 14th Street West, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
Investigators said Sampson and the victim, who were not acquainted and had arrived at the gas station separately, began arguing inside the store. The dispute quickly escalated and spilled into the parking lot.
According to police, Sampson retrieved a hatchet from his vehicle during the altercation and threatened the victim. Moments later, he reportedly got into his car, struck the man, and fled the scene.
The victim sustained a broken leg and other injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His condition is not currently life-threatening, police said.
Sampson was apprehended Wednesday morning and is facing charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and have not released additional details about the circumstances leading to the argument or whether surveillance footage from the gas station captured the incident.
