MIAMI — A 36 year old man has been arrested and charged with second degree murder after a woman was stabbed multiple times and killed inside a 47th floor apartment at Solitair Brickell early Friday morning, according to Miami police.

Police identified the suspect as Stefano Cremascocicero. Officers initially detained him for questioning after responding to the luxury apartment tower at 86 SW 8th Street at approximately 4:45 a.m. By Friday night, investigators had arrested him on a second degree murder charge. Police reportedly believe the victim was his mother, who had traveled from Mexico and was staying at the Brickell apartment. Her identity had not been publicly released as of the latest reports.

The arrest marked a major development in a case that began hours earlier as an apparent domestic related stabbing investigation in the heart of Brickell. Police said the attack appeared isolated and that there was no indication of an ongoing threat to residents or the surrounding community.

He said the scene frightened him enough that he immediately returned to his apartment, locked the door and watched through his peephole before eventually deciding to leave the building.

Rather than use the elevators near the active investigation, Karson reportedly walked down 47 floors using the stairs. His account offered a disturbing glimpse into the confusion inside the building during the first hours of the investigation, when residents had little information about what had happened or whether there was any continuing danger.

Elevators Restricted as Detectives Processed the High Rise

Police maintained a substantial presence at Solitair Brickell throughout Friday as detectives investigated the apartment and other areas of the property. The building’s elevator system was restricted during portions of the investigation while authorities processed evidence and reviewed surveillance footage. Investigators also examined areas including the lobby and the 47th floor as they worked to establish a timeline. At one point Friday morning, authorities were reportedly waiting for a search warrant before making an additional entry into the apartment, a procedural step necessary to preserve evidence and ensure the search complied with legal requirements. The victim’s body was subsequently removed by the medical examiner as homicide detectives continued their investigation.

Solitair Brickell is located at 86 SW 8th Street directly across from Brickell City Centre, placing the homicide scene in the middle of one of Miami’s densest residential, commercial and entertainment districts. What began as an early morning stabbing investigation had developed by Friday night into a second degree murder case involving a 36 year old defendant, a woman investigators reportedly believe was his mother, surveillance footage, physical evidence and a disputed account of what happened inside the apartment.

Authorities have not publicly identified the victim, announced a motive or provided a complete account of what they believe happened immediately before the stabbing.
