Pembroke Pines Microbiologist Arrested on Child Molestation Charges
A Pembroke Pines man, Hunter Nicholas Hines, 35, was arrested on Monday, January 9th, 2025, on charges of attempted sexual battery of a minor and lewd and lascivious molestation. According to a Miami-Dade arrest report, the victim, a 13-year-old boy, reported that Hines approached him in a restroom at Dolphin Mall on January 4th and subjected him to a sexual act. The teen escaped and reported the incident to mall security.
Investigators were able to identify Hines through surveillance footage and facial recognition software. A subsequent search of public records revealed that Hines is already facing similar charges in Indian River County stemming from a 2022 arrest. In that case, the alleged victim, a 14-year-old boy with Asperger’s Syndrome, reported meeting Hines on the Grindr social media platform. The victim stated that Hines picked him up from his home and forced him to perform sexual acts.
Hines, who holds a Ph.D. in microbiology from Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, maintains a social media presence under the handle “Dr. Hunter.” According to a 2023 report by TCPalm.com, Hines has collaborated with YouTube personality Coyote Peterson on his popular channel “Brave Wilderness.”
Hines’ attorney has stated that his client maintains his innocence and will be vindicated in court. During a bond hearing on Tuesday, a Miami-Dade prosecutor argued that Hines poses a danger to the community and requested a bond of $500,000. Hines’ attorney countered by requesting a more modest bond of $75,000. The judge ultimately set bond at $200,000 with GPS monitoring and house arrest.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of child safety and parental vigilance. Social media platforms and online interactions can pose significant risks, and parents are encouraged to maintain open communication with their children regarding online activity.
