Arrest and Charges
According to the Margate Police Department, 18-year-old Jaylen W. Lindo was arrested on October 22, 2025, after authorities said he brought a firearm to SunEd High School of North Broward, located at 1117 Banks Road in Margate. Police say the weapon, a .38 caliber revolver loaded with five rounds, was discovered by a school guardian who immediately alerted law enforcement. Officers also recovered a knife with a blade longer than four inches. Lindo faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm on school property and carrying a concealed firearm, both third degree felonies, along with interfering with school administration functions, a second degree misdemeanor. He appeared before a Broward County judge and was granted bond, set between $10,000 and $13,000 depending on the source. Court orders also prohibit him from returning to campus or possessing any weapons while awaiting trial.
School Response
Authorities say the situation was handled swiftly and safely. No injuries were reported, and police confirmed that the firearm was confiscated before it could be used. According to CBS News Miami, school officials followed proper protocol by notifying law enforcement immediately after the weapon was found. SunEd High School declined to provide an official comment to media outlets, including WSVN and Local 10 News, citing the ongoing investigation.
Student Background
Court documents reviewed by Local 10 News indicate that Lindo lives with his parents in North Lauderdale, has a part time job at McDonald’s, and has no prior criminal record. It remains unclear whether he was officially enrolled at the school or had entered the campus under other circumstances, according to WSVN’s report.
Legal and Community Impact
The Broward County State Attorney’s Office is handling the case, and additional hearings are expected in the coming weeks. The incident underscores growing safety concerns across South Florida schools, where local districts maintain strict zero tolerance policies toward weapons on campus. Law enforcement officials credited the quick action of the school guardian and staff for preventing what could have been a dangerous situation. The case has renewed attention to the role of armed school guardians, part of Florida’s broader post Parkland safety framework, designed to respond immediately to potential threats.
