Person Found Dead in Burning Car at Miami‑Dade Walmart Parking Lot

Car Fire Death Miami

A tragic scene unfolded Monday night in southwest Miami-Dade when a person was found dead inside a burning car parked outside a Walmart. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed the discovery and said the case is now under investigation by the department’s Homicide Bureau. Deputies responded to the Walmart parking lot near Southwest 136th Avenue and Southwest 288th Street at around 7:22 p.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle fire. When they arrived, they found a white four-door sedan completely engulfed in flames. Officers attempted to extinguish the fire using hand-held extinguishers, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived shortly after and managed to put out the blaze. Inside the vehicle, first responders found one person dead. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, and officials are waiting on autopsy results to determine both the cause of death and the victim’s identity. Authorities have not confirmed whether foul play is suspected, but the case is being treated as a possible homicide pending further investigation.

A witness, Gabriela Larosa, described the moment she passed the scene. “I was driving her home … we passed by and there was a bunch of police cars and they had [crime scene] tape everywhere,” she told WSVN 7 News. “We thought a shootout happened. We had no idea what was going on.” Initial scanner traffic picked up by local reporters suggested the vehicle may have exploded before continuing to move briefly. “They are advising it possibly exploded and then kept moving. It possibly has a driver,” an officer was heard saying over the radio. These details have not been officially confirmed by investigators. The Walmart remained open during the incident, though parts of the parking lot were cordoned off with crime scene tape. No other injuries were reported, and the vehicle did not appear to have struck any other cars or people.

The Miami-Dade Homicide Bureau is leading the investigation and reviewing nearby surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and conducting forensic analysis on the vehicle remains. Investigators are also working to trace the car’s registration and ownership history. At this stage, police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers. South Florida Media will continue to monitor the case and provide updates as authorities release more verified information.
