Plea Deal Ends Four Year Legal Battle
Courtney Clenney, the former OnlyFans model accused of killing her boyfriend inside their Miami condominium, has accepted a plea deal that will send her to prison. Clenney pleaded guilty to manslaughter with a deadly weapon in connection with the 2022 death of Christian “Toby” Obumseli.
Six Year Prison Sentence
Under the agreement, Clenney was sentenced to six years in prison, followed by five years of probation. She has already spent roughly four years in custody following her arrest, meaning she is expected to serve approximately two more years in prison before beginning probation.
What Happened Inside the Miami Condo
Obumseli, 27, was fatally stabbed on April 3, 2022, inside the Miami apartment he shared with Clenney. Prosecutors originally charged Clenney with second degree murder and alleged that she intentionally stabbed Obumseli during an argument.
Clenney has maintained that she acted in self defense. Her defense attorneys argued that she had been subjected to domestic abuse and that the fatal stabbing occurred during a confrontation in which she believed she was in danger.
Prosecutors Disputed Her Account
Prosecutors challenged Clenney’s version of events and pursued a second degree murder case against her. The case was expected to go to trial, where jurors would have been asked to determine whether Clenney intentionally killed Obumseli or whether the stabbing occurred as she claimed, in self defense.
The plea agreement avoids that trial and reduces the original murder charge to manslaughter with a deadly weapon. The agreement allows Clenney to resolve the criminal case without facing a potential murder conviction and substantially longer sentence.
Arrest and Years in Custody
Clenney was arrested in Hawaii in August 2022, several months after Obumseli’s death. She remained in custody as the case proceeded through the Miami Dade County court system.
The case attracted national attention because of Clenney’s large online following, her OnlyFans career and the competing accounts about the couple’s relationship. Evidence concerning alleged domestic violence was expected to play a significant role in the defense if the case went to trial.
Case Comes to an End
Clenney’s guilty plea brings a major chapter of the case to a close. Rather than proceeding with a second degree murder trial, she will serve the sentence negotiated through the plea agreement and remain under probation supervision after her release.
Obumseli’s death has remained at the center of a contentious legal case for more than four years, with his family and Clenney’s defense offering sharply different accounts of the events that led to his death.
