Why Jeep Wrangler Owners Embrace Dashboard Ducks

Jeep Ducking Tradition

Jeep Wrangler owners place miniature ducks on their dashboards as part of a global trend known as “Jeep ducking,” or “Duck Duck Jeep.” The tradition began in 2020 when Allison Parliament, a Jeep driver from Ontario, Canada, placed a small rubber duck with a kind note on another Jeep after a stressful encounter. She shared the gesture online, and it quickly spread across social media, evolving into a community movement that now stretches worldwide. The act is simple: Jeep owners leave a rubber duck on another Jeep, usually with a short message, as a random act of kindness meant to make someone’s day. Many drivers collect the ducks they receive, lining their dashboards with growing “duck ponds” that symbolize camaraderie and goodwill within the Jeep community. The practice has since become a recognizable cultural marker among Jeep enthusiasts, complementing long-standing traditions like the Jeep wave. Automaker Stellantis even embraced the movement, displaying the world’s largest rubber duck at the 2022 Detroit Auto Show. In the years since, the playful trend has inspired spin-offs among other vehicle groups, from Broncos to Toyotas, each adapting the idea for their own brand. While the ducks are lighthearted, their meaning runs deeper—they represent kindness, community, and the spirit of connection. The movement’s founder, Allison Parliament, passed away unexpectedly in 2024, sparking an outpouring of tributes from Jeep owners worldwide, underscoring how a simple duck grew into a unifying symbol for an entire community.

It’s fun to give out ducks such a random act of kindness.
