Two Dead, Two Wounded in Overnight Shooting in Miami’s Little Haiti
MIAMI, FL — A violent shooting erupted just after midnight in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood, leaving two people dead and two others hospitalized. The incident adds another grim chapter to Miami’s ongoing battle with street violence, particularly in historically underserved neighborhoods like Little Haiti.
What Happened
According to the Miami Police Department, the city’s ShotSpotter system detected gunfire around NW 62nd Street and NW 2nd Avenue shortly after midnight. Officers responded quickly and found a man slumped inside a blue sedan stopped in the middle of NW 62nd Street. He had been shot and was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he later died.
Bullet casings were found at the scene, and the glass at a nearby bus stop had been shattered. Police also searched the grounds of nearby Miami Edison Senior High School and its basketball courts for additional evidence.
Shortly after, police learned that another man had fled the scene, only to be found dead a few blocks away at NW 2nd Avenue and 56th Street. His vehicle was riddled with bullets. Authorities believe both deaths are connected to the same shooting.
Two Others Walk Into Hospital
Two additional men arrived at Jackson Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds. Their current conditions have not been released, and police are still working to determine their involvement in the shooting—whether they were victims or suspects.
“There may be other suspects involved,” said Miami police spokeswoman Kiara Delva. “We’re asking anyone with information to come forward.”
Community in Fear
Residents in the area said the sound of gunfire is tragically routine. One local woman, who asked not to be named, said, “We all ran inside and dropped to the floor. Then we called the police. That’s just what we do now.”
The continued violence highlights the gap between Miami’s public safety promises and the realities on the ground for many working-class neighborhoods. Despite increased surveillance and law enforcement efforts, homicides and shootings remain far too common.
No Arrests, No Motive
At this time, there are no suspects in custody. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and police have not disclosed any potential links between the victims.
