Fort Lauderdale Woman Recovering After Stabbing and Hit-and-Run Attack
MIAMI – A woman is recovering from critical injuries after being stabbed and struck by a dark-colored SUV in a Fort Lauderdale neighborhood early Wednesday morning.
According to Fort Lauderdale police, the incident took place around 9 a.m. in the 2900 block of Southwest 13th Street. Witnesses reported hearing screams and commotion as the violent attack unfolded in broad daylight.
“I saw the lady on the ground,” said a neighbor, who asked not to be identified. “Somebody was fighting, and all I heard was the screams. The car hit her. She was on the ground. The car took off.”
The neighbor, who was unaware that the screams were linked to a stabbing just steps from her driveway, quickly realized the severity of the situation as the attack progressed. A second neighbor rushed to the victim’s aid, helping her despite the critical nature of her injuries from both the stabbing and the subsequent hit-and-run.
“It was just out of nowhere, early in the morning,” the neighbor said. “It was gut-wrenching.”
The victim was transported to a local hospital and is currently in recovery. Police have stated that the attack does not appear to have been random and are investigating whether the victim and the attacker were known to each other.
Surveillance footage from a nearby camera shows the SUV speeding away from the scene, with its back hatch open, shortly after hitting the woman. Despite the vehicle’s quick getaway, authorities are not currently looking for a specific suspect but have made no arrests at this time.
Police continue to investigate the motive behind the attack and are working to piece together the details of the events leading up to the stabbing.
