This year has been full of a lot of sadness. Many deaths have been caused by the negligence of others and the racism that is displayed on a daily basis throughout the country. It is difficult to stay calm and go on with our day-to-day lives sometimes with all the hostility and hate flowing. In the wake of yet another shooting, NBA players have recently begun boycotting games together, causing many of them to be postponed for another time. The recent shooting of Jacob Blake by a police officer spurred the Bucks to stand together and boycott the fifth round of their first playoff series.

Players Stand in Solidarity for the Loss of a Life

Recently, many lives have been taken that have led many people to question the stability of this country and the police officers who serve it. In Kenosha, Wisconsin, just a few miles from the Buck’s home, Jacob Blake, a 29-year old male, was shot by the police. Many people are saying that this event traces back to systemic racism in the police force. He was a black male. Other innocent black people have been killed by police recently. For example, George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

These NBA players are standing in protest to just live and play this sport as if nothing has been happening around them. Many professional players have come out in support of this narrative and ideal for the injustice that has been placed upon people of color. Several have spoken at these Black Lives Matter rallies and have made generous donations to these organizations in order to help aid the cause.

Although they are in protest for these games, they do not intend on postponing the entire post-season for a long duration. The playoff games will continue after the boycott is finished. These players just weren’t able and sit back and watch the social injustice that was taking place.
