Florida Atlantic Edges Temple 83-81 Behind Kaleb Glenn’s Spark Off the Bench

In a thrilling American Athletic Conference showdown, Florida Atlantic secured a hard-fought 83-81 victory over Temple, powered by a stellar performance from sophomore Kaleb Glenn, who came off the bench to score 17 points and grab five rebounds. The win improved FAU’s record to 15-10 overall and 8-4 in conference play, keeping them in the hunt for a strong postseason position.

Glenn’s contribution was pivotal, especially in the second half, where his energy and scoring punch helped FAU claw back from a 10-point deficit. He scored nine of his 17 points in the first half and delivered back-to-back three-pointers in a span of just 40 seconds to ignite the comeback. His driving layup in the closing moments provided a crucial cushion, allowing FAU to fend off Temple’s last-gasp efforts.

The Owls showcased a balanced offensive attack, with redshirt junior forward Tre Carroll adding 16 points on an efficient 5-for-8 shooting, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. Carroll was also a force on the boards, grabbing seven rebounds and swatting away four shots, setting the tone defensively. Junior guard Leland Walker chipped in with 12 points, including five crucial points to open the game, and played a key role in FAU’s decisive late-game run.

Florida Atlantic trailed 38-35 at halftime after a sluggish start that saw Temple take advantage of early defensive lapses. Temple built a 10-point lead midway through the second half, but FAU responded by attacking the paint and getting to the free-throw line, a strategy that paid dividends down the stretch.

With just under two minutes remaining, Walker delivered a pivotal three-point play to give FAU a 76-75 lead, capitalizing on a defensive lapse by Temple. Moments later, Walker intercepted a pass and drove coast-to-coast for another bucket, solidifying FAU’s momentum. In the final 17 seconds, FAU demonstrated poise at the line, sinking five of six free throws to secure the victory.

Despite the loss, Temple (14-12, 6-7 AAC) put up a valiant fight, led by Steve Settle’s 18 points. Quante Berry added 14 points, while Shane Dezonie contributed 11 points and an impressive five steals. Temple controlled the pace early and built a sizable lead but couldn’t withstand FAU’s relentless second-half surge.

FAU’s defensive effort in the closing moments was critical, as they denied Temple a shot attempt on their final possession, preserving the narrow two-point lead. Carroll’s shot-blocking presence and Walker’s clutch defensive play proved decisive.

With this victory, Florida Atlantic continues to build momentum as they enter the final stretch of AAC play. Their balanced scoring, depth off the bench, and ability to execute in high-pressure moments position them as a formidable contender in the conference.

FAU head coach expressed his pride in the team’s resilience, stating, “We showed a lot of heart tonight. Coming back from double digits on the road isn’t easy, but our guys never quit.”

Florida Atlantic will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup, as they continue to push for a top spot in the AAC standings.
