Landlord Arrested for Fatal Shooting of Tenant in Miami-Dade County
Miami-Dade County, Fla. – A landlord in Miami-Dade County has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following the fatal shooting of his tenant. The incident occurred on Saturday morning in the 9400 block of Southwest 17th Terrace, according to authorities.
Deputies from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting shortly after 8 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a man, identified as 57-year-old Carlos Alberto Gonzalez, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported Gonzalez to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Adam Louis Anson, was taken into custody at the scene. Investigators reported that a dispute between Anson and Gonzalez escalated into physical violence. According to the arrest report, Anson walked to the efficiency unit located on the east side of his home, armed with a semi-automatic pistol, and knocked on the window, allegedly attempting to enter the unit to adjust the thermostat in the hallway.
When Gonzalez opened the door, Anson reportedly forced his way inside and began punching Gonzalez unprovoked. He then dragged Gonzalez outside into the backyard, where he allegedly shot him multiple times in the head.
Following the shooting, Anson re-entered the efficiency unit, adjusted the thermostat, and returned to his home before calling 911. During the call, Anson claimed the tenant had tried to hit him, prompting him to shoot in self-defense. However, deputies stated that the details of the incident did not support his self-defense claim.
Anson’s firearm was recovered at the scene, and he was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and burglary with assault or battery while armed. He appeared before a judge on Sunday and remains held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
