Miami, FL – July 23, 2024 – A drive-by shooting in Southwest Miami-Dade on Sunday afternoon has left one man injured and multiple homes damaged. The incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. when two cars, a white vehicle and a black vehicle, approached a man on a residential street.

Witnesses reported that two men exited the white car and began firing at the man, who attempted to flee on foot. Moments later, the black car pulled up, and occupants of that vehicle also opened fire. In total, over 100 shots were fired during the altercation.

The man, who was struck in the back, was transported to a local hospital where he is currently in stable condition. Miraculously, no other injuries were reported, although several stray bullets struck nearby homes. Some bullets even penetrated the walls of bedrooms where residents were sleeping, highlighting the reckless nature of the shooting.

One individual has been arrested in connection with the incident. Authorities have yet to release the name of the suspect or the possible motives behind the shooting. The entire incident was captured on surveillance video, which is now in the hands of law enforcement as they continue their investigation.

Local residents are understandably shaken by the violence in their community.

As the investigation continues, the police are working diligently to piece together the events that led to this violent encounter and bring those responsible to justice.

Details of the Arrest

A 25-year-old man, Glenn Roy Cassis Jr., was arrested over the weekend following a shooting outside a Miami-Dade County grocery store in which one person was severely injured.

According to the suspect’s arrest report, the shooting occurred just after 2:45 a.m. Saturday outside Davis Grocery, located at 21630 SW 120th Ave.

Miami-Dade police said officers responded to the area after receiving two ShotSpotter notifications. When officers arrived at the scene, they found more than 100 spent casings in the roadway and the victim, Tristum Hobbs, laying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his back. Hobbs was then transported to Jackson South Medical Center in critical condition.

According to the report, a nearby home was also struck by at least one bullet, which entered a bedroom where a woman and her daughter were sleeping.

Police said surveillance video was obtained from the grocery store, which showed a white sedan and a black sedan heading north on Southwest 120th Avenue before coming to a stop at the intersection of 216th Street. People from both vehicles then began shooting at the victim who was standing near the intersection.

Officers later located the black car, which was parked at the Princeton Groves Apartments. The vehicle had damage consistent with gunshots to the roof and the front of the vehicle. A detective conducted surveillance on the vehicle and detained the suspect, Glenn Roy Cassis Jr., of Miami, as he was getting out of the car at about 5:50 a.m. Cassis had a Glock 17 with an extended magazine in his waistband, authorities said.

Cassis was taken to the police station for questioning and provided an admission of some kind, which was redacted from the publicly released report. Police confirmed, however, that Cassis denied firing a gun.

Cassis was arrested on charges of attempted murder, shooting or throwing a deadly missile, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and use of a firearm while committing a felony. As of Monday morning, Cassis was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

It’s unclear how many people remain at large. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
