Jeep Recalls More Than 1 Million Wrangler and Gladiator Vehicles Over Fire Risk

Jeep Recall Fire Risk

Jeep owner? You may want to check your vehicle immediately.

Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, has issued a voluntary recall affecting more than 1 million Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles in the United States due to a defect that could increase the risk of fire, even when the vehicle is parked and turned off. Federal safety regulators are urging owners to park affected vehicles outdoors and away from buildings until repairs can be completed.

The recall covers approximately 1,076,999 Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator models from the 2021 through 2025 model years. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from an electrical connection problem within the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring. The defect can create excessive heat, potentially causing nearby combustible materials to ignite.

Fire Risk Exists Even When Vehicles Are Off

One of the most concerning aspects of the recall is that the fire hazard can occur while the vehicle is parked with the ignition switched off. Regulators say the faulty wiring connection may overheat without warning, creating a risk of vehicle fires when owners are not present. As a result, NHTSA has issued an urgent recommendation that affected vehicles be parked outside and away from homes, garages, and other structures until a remedy becomes available.

Reports of Fires and Injury

Federal investigators began examining the issue after receiving multiple reports of vehicle fires. NHTSA says it is aware of at least 51 fires and one injury believed to be connected to the defect. Stellantis has reported dozens of customer complaints and field reports associated with the problem, though no crashes linked to the defect have been reported.

Which Vehicles Are Affected?

The recall includes certain Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator vehicles manufactured between the 2021 and 2025 model years. Industry reports indicate that approximately 787,887 Wrangler SUVs and 289,112 Gladiator pickup trucks are included in the U.S. recall population.

What Owners Should Do

Stellantis says dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and, if necessary, repair or replace the wiring harness and electric hydraulic power steering pump at no cost to owners. The company expects a repair solution to be available by July and plans to begin notifying affected customers by mail.

Owners can check whether their vehicle is included by searching their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) through the NHTSA recall database or Jeep’s recall portal. Drivers with questions can also contact Stellantis customer service for additional information.

Another Major Recall for Stellantis

The recall represents one of the largest automotive safety actions of 2026 and adds to a growing list of recall related challenges for Stellantis. Safety regulators continue to monitor the situation as the company works to complete inspections and repairs for affected Jeep owners.
