Search for Killer Continues After 18-Year-Old Man is Fatally Shot in Oakland Park
OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) is searching for the suspect involved in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old man in Oakland Park on Saturday.
The victim, Ammon Watson, was ambushed and shot while standing in the driveway of his home on Northwest 28 Street and 22 Terrace just before 11:55 a.m. Watson had just returned from a nearby store with his grandmother, who had gone inside moments before the attack.
“The shooter ran up to the victim while he was in the driveway,” said Miranda Grossman, a spokeswoman for BSO, in a statement released Sunday.
Emergency responders from Oakland Park Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and pronounced Watson dead. The suspect fled on foot and remains at large.
Detectives with the BSO homicide unit quickly established a perimeter and canvassed the area following the incident. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the motive behind the shooting.
Watson, who had recently become a father to a 6-month-old boy, is being mourned by family members. They are urging anyone with information to come forward.
BSO detectives are asking anyone with details about the case to contact Detective Kevin Nitsch at 954-321-4876 or submit tips anonymously via Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
As the search for the killer continues, the Oakland Park community remains on edge, hoping for a swift resolution to this tragic incident.
