Miami-Dade Therapist Accused of Sexually Assaulting Three Patients

Miami Therapist Accused of Sexually Assaulting Multiple Women at Mental Health Facility

MIAMI — A therapist at a women’s mental health and substance abuse treatment center in Miami-Dade County has been arrested following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, according to the Miami Police Department.

Manuel Enrique Garcia, 33, was taken into custody by the department’s Felony Apprehension Team on Tuesday, July 15. Police say Garcia worked at a facility located in the 100 block of NE 49th Street, where he allegedly used his position of authority to exploit and coerce vulnerable female patients during therapy sessions.

Victims Detail Coercion, Threats

The investigation began when two women reported Garcia to law enforcement earlier this month. One of the victims, a woman in her late 40s, told police that Garcia sexually assaulted her during a private session and threatened her with job loss and homelessness if she spoke out.

A second woman in her mid-20s reported that Garcia coerced her into performing sexual acts by threatening to alter her therapy records—an action she feared could jeopardize her ongoing efforts to reunite with her child.

Both victims were patients at the facility and receiving mental health and substance abuse treatment at the time of the incidents, according to police.

New Allegation Triggers Additional Charge

A third woman has now come forward with a new allegation, documented in recently released arrest records. She claims that in January 2025, Garcia locked the door to his office, made sexually inappropriate remarks, and forced her into sexual acts. As a result of this new allegation, Garcia now faces an additional criminal charge.

Other Residents Corroborate Reports

Police say the victims’ statements have been supported by other women currently residing at the facility. According to the Miami Police Department, multiple residents reported experiencing or witnessing similar patterns of inappropriate behavior by Garcia, including verbal sexual harassment and boundary violations during sessions.

Ongoing Investigation

Garcia is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, July 18.

The Miami Police Department’s Special Victims Unit is actively investigating and believes there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.

Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact the Miami Police Special Victims Unit at 305-603-6300 or 305-579-6111.
