Bodycam Footage Shows Miami Beach Police Chase Armed Sex Offender
MIAMI BEACH — Police body camera footage captured the tense moments when officers chased and arrested 26-year-old Jerrod Floyd, an armed sex offender, on foot in the 600 block of Ocean Drive on December 17, 2024.
The chase began after officers responded to a call from a woman who was heard screaming about a man carrying a gun. Upon arriving at the scene, officers spotted Floyd and ordered him to stop, but he fled on foot, leading to a high-speed pursuit.
As shown in the bodycam footage, Floyd ran through the streets, losing his pants and a cross-body bag containing a firearm after jumping a fence. His clothes became caught on the fence, but Floyd continued to flee. He eventually encountered a closed gate and was apprehended by officers, who placed him into custody without further incident.
After his arrest, Floyd initially provided officers with a false name, but a records check revealed his true identity. Authorities discovered that Floyd had two non-extraditable warrants out of Georgia and Oregon for sexual exploitation of a minor and attempted child sex crimes.
In addition to the warrants, Floyd was found in possession of a fake license, a firearm with one bullet in the chamber, and a magazine. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed narcotics and alcohol. According to Miami Beach Police spokesperson Christopher Bess, Floyd had been acting erratically before the arrest, and the firearm had fallen from his possession as he waved it outside the sunroof of the vehicle.
Floyd faces several charges, including failing to report as a sexual offender, possessing a stolen or fictitious license, providing a false name after arrest, improper exhibition of a firearm, and resisting an officer without violence. He is currently being held at the Miami-Dade County Jail on a $9,500 bond.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and authorities praised the quick response of officers in apprehending the suspect.
