Ramírez Sparks Marlins to Third Straight Win, 4-3 Over Reds

Agustín Ramírez continues to make a memorable first impression. The 24-year-old Marlins catcher doubled twice, walked, and singled in his second major league game, helping power Miami to a 4-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night at loanDepot park.

Ramírez, who went 2-for-3 in his MLB debut on Monday, now has five hits through his first two games — the most ever by a Marlins player to start a career. His second double of the night came in the sixth inning, driving in Eric Wagaman to cut Cincinnati’s lead to 3-2 and set the stage for a decisive seventh.

With the score tied and two outs in the seventh, Xavier Edwards dribbled a slow roller toward the mound off Reds reliever Graham Ashcraft. Ashcraft (0-2) rushed the throw and fired wide of first base, allowing Otto Lopez to race home from second with the go-ahead run. The error proved costly, and the Marlins held on from there.

Lake Bachar (1-0) earned his first career win after tossing a scoreless seventh inning with two strikeouts. Calvin Faucher closed the door with a clean ninth, notching his second save of the season.

Edward Cabrera started for the Marlins and struck out seven across five innings, allowing three runs. Reds starter Nick Martinez was solid, giving up just one run over 5 1/3 innings with four strikeouts.

Noelvi Marte gave Cincinnati an early boost with a 431-foot solo home run — his second of the year — off Cabrera in the third inning. TJ Friedl also had a productive night for the Reds with a single and an RBI double, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Cincinnati from falling to 2-5 in one-run games this season.

With the win, Miami improves to 11-12 overall and 8-7 at home. It’s a far cry from 2024, when the Marlins didn’t notch their 10th win until May 5.

The Marlins will aim to complete the series sweep on Wednesday afternoon. Reigning Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara (2-1, 7.27 ERA) gets the nod for Miami, while Cincinnati counters with right-hander Brady Singer (3-0, 3.38 ERA).
