Detectives Search for Clues After Rapper Shot Dead in Hallandale Beach
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. — A 25-year-old rapper was shot and killed Thursday night in Hallandale Beach, triggering an intensive police investigation and leaving the South Florida music community in shock. Authorities have identified the victim as Brandon Wamley, known to fans as Wam SpinThaBin.
The Shooting
Hallandale Beach police said they responded just after 10 p.m. to a ShotSpotter alert in the 500 block of Northwest Sixth Avenue. Officers arriving at the scene found Wamley suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators believe the shooting was not random, saying early evidence indicates that Wamley and the shooter were acquainted. Detectives spent Friday canvassing the neighborhood, going door-to-door to gather surveillance footage and witness statements.
Witness Accounts
Neighbors described a chaotic scene in the moments after the gunfire. One resident, speaking in Spanish to a Local 10 News reporter, said he bolted inside his home and hid in the bathroom after hearing the shots ring out.
Another neighbor told reporters, “It is scary because you see police in the middle of the night. You’re wondering what’s going on.”
