Raskin Accuses Trump of Epstein Cover-Up, Calls File Secrecy a “Threat to Public Safety”
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) is publicly accusing former President Donald Trump and his administration of suppressing the truth about Jeffrey Epstein’s ties to powerful individuals, warning that the continued secrecy is a “danger to public health and safety.”
During a live interview on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House Monday, Raskin urged the Trump administration to release the full set of Epstein-related files, including any names of individuals who may have been involved in the late financier’s network of sex trafficking.
“If there are literally other people on this list who are somehow implicated in these actions, it is dangerous to public health and safety not to release the names publicly,” Raskin said.
Bondi Under Fire, Transparency Questioned
Earlier this year, Attorney General Pam Bondi released a partial binder of Epstein materials dubbed The Epstein Files: Phase 1 to a group of conservative influencers. The files mostly consisted of previously released or redacted information, triggering skepticism from both sides of the aisle. Bondi also made headlines in February when she claimed during a Fox News interview that she had a full “client list” from the Epstein case “sitting on [her] desk.”
Last week, Bondi backtracked during a Cabinet meeting, stating that her previous remarks were taken out of context — that she was referring to the binder of documents, not an actual list of names.
The Justice Department and FBI then released a joint memo earlier this month concluding that Epstein died by suicide in 2019 and that there was no client list and no evidence of a wider conspiracy. That conclusion, however, has only fueled more outrage.
Bipartisan Doubts Emerge
Democrats, including Raskin, and some MAGA-aligned figures have criticized what they perceive as a cover-up. Raskin questioned the integrity of the entire operation during his MSNBC appearance, warning that Trump’s handling of the issue risks further eroding public trust.
“If all of it is a concoction and an invention, then I think they need to come clean about that,” Raskin said. “It’s very dangerous just to leave these things hanging out there.”
He directly implicated Trump as the person behind the stonewalling, stating:
“Clearly, it’s Donald Trump who’s making the call here for whatever reason. He said he was going to release it, and now he’s saying there’s nothing to see here and appears to be wanting to sweep the whole thing under the rug.”
Raskin further warned that Trump’s behavior is especially irresponsible given the level of public interest and the moral gravity of the issue.
“After having inflamed millions and millions of people in the country and raised all kinds of doubts about our law enforcement commitment to prosecuting child sex abuse, this is an irresponsible way to proceed,” he said.
Trump Administration Dismisses Criticism
Trump, who has previously teased the idea of releasing the Epstein files, now appears to be distancing himself from the controversy. During Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, he reprimanded a reporter who raised questions about the case. Over the weekend, he doubled down on his support for Bondi, calling her performance “fantastic.”
White House spokesperson Harrison Fields echoed Trump’s tone in a statement dismissing the backlash.
“President Trump has assembled an incredible team of Law and Order patriots… Attorney General Bondi, Director Patel, Deputy Director Bongino… are dedicated to executing President Trump’s agenda,” Fields said. “This work will continue in lockstep and with unprecedented success.”
Despite the strong words, the rift between public expectations and the administration’s actions continues to grow, with calls for transparency reaching a boiling point.
As Epstein’s shadow looms over America’s political landscape once again, the Trump administration faces mounting pressure to either release the full extent of the files — or explain why they won’t.
