Witness Video Captures Shooting at Costco Parking Lot in Davie

Altercation Escalates Into Gunfire

A tense confrontation in the parking lot of a Costco in Davie escalated into gunfire on Wednesday morning, according to police and witness video. The incident happened around 10:15 a.m. outside the warehouse store on South University Drive. A bystander’s cellphone video shows two men arguing, with one eventually striking the other near their vehicles. Both men had their driver’s side doors open as the altercation unfolded. Moments later, as one of the vehicles attempted to leave, a single gunshot rang out.

Bullet Strikes Vehicle Tire

According to witnesses, the shot was aimed at the departing vehicle and struck the rear driver-side tire, flattening it. No one was hit, and authorities confirmed there were no reported injuries. Witnesses said the confrontation appeared to be fueled by a road-rage style dispute that began in the crowded parking lot. Police quickly established a crime scene, blocking off sections of the lot as they gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses.

Police Detain a Man for Questioning

Davie police detained one man at the scene for questioning. However, investigators have not yet said whether charges will be filed or if multiple individuals are under investigation. Broward Sheriff’s Fire Rescue also responded to assist officers as the scene was secured. Police emphasized that the incident appears to be isolated and does not pose an ongoing threat to the community.

Witnesses Point to Gun Laws

Shoppers who witnessed the confrontation expressed frustration about how quickly disputes can escalate when firearms are involved. One shopper, Eder Dorne, told WSVN that Florida’s looser gun laws may be fueling these types of violent outbursts. “It’s the new law in Florida, no? Now you can carry a gun, yeah, everybody can walk with a gun … the other one shoots the tire and tried to shoot him, just because of his stop,” Dorne said.

Broader Concerns in South Florida

While no one was hurt, the incident highlights growing concerns about road-rage confrontations and gun violence in South Florida. The fact that the bullet hit only a tire may have prevented serious injury, but the case underscores the dangers of armed disputes in public spaces. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved, and the investigation remains ongoing.
